"Nick we need you at table 5!" Sadie said as her curly red hair flew behind her when she skated by, her strawberry scent was fading away the longer she stayed in the pizzeria. With out saying anything but his usual grunt Nick started to clean down table 5 so more people can give him a hard time. He couldn't remember the last time someone who sat at that table was ever nice to him. Even though he was the server and the cleaner, for low staff reasons, he never got paid what he was said, even the tips were running low. I hate this job, Nick thought. He was just waiting for the day Fritz's diner and arcade opened. People said that the restaurant will be better than any Freddy's, even the greasy pizza they serve is supposed to be better. Nick also heard that if you work there you would get paid more than any job at Freddy's which was a win win for him.
Before he could day dream any more about Fritz's he was snapped out of it by Sadie standing a little to close to his face. Her face looked like a angry squirrel Nick thought. "Didn't I just say I need you at table 7?! Are you def Nicholas??"
He cringed. He hated when people called him by his full name especially if that person was Sadie.
"It's Nick and you said table 5 not 7." Trying to make sure the sarcasm was heard through his voice Sadie's face didn't change.
"Yeah I said table 5 two minutes ago! Now it's table 7 and-" Nick stopped listening, he wasn't in the mood to get scolded at by someone about to leave high school, so he just walked away to clean the table. As he left he heard a scoff but he really didn't care. Serves her right for treating me the same.
While cleaning the table he reassured him self, "Just a couple more weeks then I'm out." Before he could go back into his future fantasy a toddler about the height of his leg ran into him. He didn't mind all the greasy pizza and customers and loud band that played everyday, but those damn kids get on his nerves.
"Oof- sorry" the toddler giggled like it was the funniest thing in the world and ran off to where ever he was going.
"Hopefully the kids at Fritz would have some type of maturity." Nick said hopefully loud enough to catch the attention of other kids but they couldn't hear him. I mean how could they? Freddy's band play rock so loud you can barley hear someone yelling in your ear. He must of been heard by the adults sitting in the table next to him because they gave him a glare. Like he cared, what were they gonna do? Get the manager. Oh please this place is so low on staff he has no choice but to keep Nick on the job. Smiling at the fact that the adults have no power over him in this situation he felt someone poking him. He thought it was a annoying kid trying to get his attention or Sadie about to nag him again. He turned around looking annoyed hopefully to scare who ever it was off but to his surprise it was his best friend Pete. He felt his face get hot "ugh this is so embarrassing."
"Hey Nick I didn't know you worked here." Pete said through his perfect straight smile and purple tongue from the drink he was holding. "Hey Pete.. er yeah I've been working here for awhile." Nick said hoping that Pete won't be making fun of him but instead Pete didn't really seem like he was planning any joke. It was hard to hear but Nick got used to following peoples lips so he understood most things Pete was saying. He read the words "you look nice in red" or something like that. The burning in his face got more intense, he thought he was going to pass out if he stood there any longer so he pulled Pete into the arcade. It was still bright and noisy but at least you could hear a conversation. "I'm sorry I couldn't hear what you were saying." Nick said still holding on to Pete's forearm. It looked like Pete's face was red too but he was probably getting heated standing in there too. "Oh- it's ok I just said uh.." he pauses for a second turning away then looked back, "I was wondering if you'll be free on Saturday to .. hang out." The red in his face was staying at his cheeks making him look like the kid on the balloon boy game. Now that he thought about it Pete kinda did look like balloon boy. His straight burnt amber brown hair was hanging loose from a grey beanie he always wore, which he some how gets away with in school, and freckled face on angel peach skin. Even though balloon boys eyes are light blue, Pete's dark brown eyes made him look stunning. He was very handsome but Nick didn't know if Pete wanted to hear that from a guy.
"Hello?" Pete said looking concerned.
Embarrassed once again while lost in his thoughts Nick says "huh- oh right.. um sure I have the day off anyways."
Pete gives a warm smile which makes Nick's stomach all fuzzy. "Cool, well then I'll see you at my place on Saturday." Pete said turning around to throw out his drink and gave a small wave to say bye. Nick wished Pete didn't have to go, Nick liked having him around because of how close they've gotten. Nick started to walk out of the arcade and saw Sadie looking for him. He sighs and walks out.
