The Fantastic Four began setting up their headquarters. Mr. Fantastic created a blueprint in the dirt on exactly how their makeshift home should look and function. As he gave out orders, the Thing began tearing down trees with his bare hands for support beams, Human Torch welded materials together with his flames, and Invisible Woman occasionally sneaked off to go steal supplies from any nearby camps.
Deadpool, armed with two Carbonadium blades, set out on his quest to kill Logan. This would soon prove to be next to impossible as every time he thought that he found a way out of the woods, reality distorted, and he'd be right back where he started. It did not take long for him to realize that this was Cheezy's subtle payback for breaking the fourth wall in his stories all the time.
Batman blended into the shadows as he hid atop a tree. During his time in the caves, he discovered several cave paintings that depicted great battles featuring warriors from alternate dimensions. Whatever was happening here, it wasn't the first time it had happened. If anyone in this cursed place wanted to escape with their lives, they would need to find out who was responsible for all of this and bring them to justice.
As he contemplated this, Ghost Rider rumbled past on his hellcycle. Maybe there was something to be learned from these otherworldly beings. With that thought, Batman followed in close pursuit.
Swamp Thing meditated in the forest. It was a quiet night. Perhaps now he would finally be able to get some rest.
Hawkeye and Captain America went for a long walk together. They discussed the possibility of creating a peace offering for the other tributes. Just because these people came from a different reality didn't mean they were all necessarily evil, right?
Meanwhile, in a secluded part of the woods, Wolverine's entire body tensed up as he sensed someone approaching. Brandishing his claws, he turned and slashed at the air in front of him.
Starfire managed to fly back just in time to avoid getting sliced into a million pieces.
"Oh, I am so sorry if I startled you! That was not my intention. I promise that I mean you no harm."
Wolverine cocked an eyebrow but didn't lower his guard.
"Yeah, right. We're in the middle of some sorta death tournament, and you don't want to fight. And here I thought that Beast was bad at lying."
He lunged again, but Starfire ducked out of the way at the last second. His claw tore through a tree behind her and got stuck in the other side. She looked at it in awe.
"What a fascinating appendage. Do all the people on your planet have such sharp talons?"
Wolverine grimaced as he struggled to free himself. She was already getting on his nerves.
"It's a claw, first of all. Second, if we all had these, there'd be almost none of us left."
Starfire contemplated this for a moment.
"Then, why do you have the long, sharp appendages when others of your kind don't? Are you an alien as well?"
He paused for a moment. Was she being serious? Or was she just that ignorant?
"No. I'm a mutant. And a dangerous one at that. So for your own safety, I suggest you back off right now."
This was meant to be perceived as a threat, but if anything, it just made her all the more curious.
"But why would I do that? I want to hear more about these the 'mutants.' They sound like a fascinating race of being."
Finally, Wolverine succeeded in ripping his claw out from the tree. Though at this point, he lost all interest in fighting. Now, he just wanted to escape this weird conversation.
"Here's all you need to know about mutants: we don't like being messed with. And we value time alone."
He walked off, hoping that was enough of a hint to make her go away. However, Starfire followed along, asking questions the whole time.
The Flash, Beast Boy, and Cyborg decided to spend the night together as a group for safety. They laughed away their fears through ghost stories, video games, and cool party tricks (thanks to their powers).
Green Lantern started a fire to provide warmth and to cook some food he had received from an unknown sponsor. Aquaman stared blankly into the flames, occasionally looking down at his stump. The viking that had done this would pay with his life!
Bruce Banner spent all night staring at the stars. Though he did not recognize any of them, he was still able to enjoy the beautiful constellations that glittered across the sky.
Spider-Man saw flames nearby but figured it was best not to engage.
Blue Beetle used his suit to create huge plasma cannons on his hands and blast apart a few boulders in the distance for target practice.
While on a leisurely stroll, Black Widow noticed Wonder Woman passed out against a nearby rock. She walked over and began to inspect for any injuries.
As soon as she was within striking distance, Wonder Woman opened her eyes and clanged her bracelets together, sending out a shock wave that sent Widow flying back.
The Amazonian princess pulled out her blade and struck down with a fury so vicious that it would make even Ares tremble in terror.
However, Natasha parried the blow with her batons and preformed a leg scissors attack that sent Wonder Woman to the ground.
She took advantage of the situation and electrocuted her with the Widow's Bite. Diana responded by crushing Natasha's wrists and throwing her off.
Wonder Woman grabbed her sword from the ground before striding over to finish the job. It gave her no pleasure to do this, but she could not allow such a threat to live.
With a single slash, one of Earth's mightiest heroes met her end.
Superman's head shot up as he heard a shriek coming from a camp nearby. His blood ran cold. He recognized that bloodcurdling scream. It was coming from one of his own friends!
A loud hiss drew his attention away for a moment. There was some sort of strange green gas coming out of a tree trunk. He knit his eyebrows in confusion. How was a tree emitting gas?
Before he had a chance to ponder any further, Superman fell to his knees. The noxious fumes burned his Kryptonian lungs and clouded his vision. Everything was getting blurry...
However, this was not the only strange event that would occur this night. Some things were best left alone... as our brave heroes soon found out the hard way.
