XXXI: Their place

The sun poured through his windows, the day crisp and clear. His room began to brighten up and he shielded his eyes as he sat up, back against his headboard. He sighed and grabbed his phone which lay on his bedside table. He had slept in, due to it being Saturday and thought the two girls were still fast asleep.

Usually, he'd lay in bed for some time before getting up but in this time around, he felt this urge to be productive this weekend. Waking up late wasn't a good start.

He stood up and headed to his bathroom. The sun so bright, it shined into his bathroom as well.

After he had washed his face, he looked up into his mirror, staring at his reflection. He felt an uncomfortable shift in the atmosphere, he felt wrong, like something bad was to happen soon. He immediately shook it off and took it as if he was just bring paranoid for no reason and continued to get ready.

He closed his door behind him and walked up to Mikasa's room. He knocked three times and waited for one of them to open. Mina opened the door, still in her pajamas and in a annoyed tone asked, "What?" She looked up at him, eyebrows furrowed.

To his surprise, Mikasa wasn't in her bed, in fact, it was already made. He looked back at Mina "Sorry to wake you" he started "but where is Mikasa?" He asked

"She left about thirty minutes ago, she went to the beach." Mina said

"The beach?" Eren knew the beach wasn't too far away, it was a 15-20 minute walk. "Why there?" he asked her but her only response was a shrug of her shoulders and closed the door.

He saw her, shoes off, knees close to her chest. She was sitting down, staring at the waves with her arms wrapped around her legs. As he came closer, he noticed her face, how at peace she looked. He sat down next to her, his hands behind his back and his legs spread forward.

"What's up?" He asked not looking at her but instead staring at the ocean. He didn't hear a response from her so he looked at her only to see a sweet smile on on her lips. Seeing her smiling made him feel a lot better. "Why are you smiling?" He asked not knowing that he too began smiling.

"I think" She started and after a few seconds "Nevermind." She shook her head.

He threw his head back and groaned.
"I hate it when people do that." He said and Mikasa frowned. She had something to tell him but just couldn't get it out.

"Whatever it is, you can tell me you know, we're like best friends now." He said smiling at her.

"I know that." She said and after that the two of them sat in silence for a few more minutes before Eren stood up. She looked up at him, squinting her eyes due to the the sun, asking " Where are you going?

He gave her his hand and helped her stand up, she stumbled but quickly regained her balance. Her hand still in his, she opened her mouth and said.

"Eren, I think I like you."

He looked at her confused and waited for her to continue.

"I mean, don't ask me why because I don't really know right now but I like you and that's that. I think I've liked you for a while now but I just didn't know until last night. It's olay if you don't feel the same way, I just needed to tell you because I don't think I can hold it in for much longer and I don't totally know how this works but-"

She was barely done speaking when her lips were covered with his. His hand reached up to her jaw and the kiss deepened.

They both pulled away and Eren smiled at her before putting his arm around her shoulder. She smiled and they began to walk off.
