The day I finished my finals felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders. I walked out of the exam hall, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across the campus. The air was filled with the excited chatter of students, all celebrating the end of another grueling semester. I took a deep breath, savoring the sense of freedom that came with the end of exams.
I decided to take a stroll around campus, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. As I wandered past the library, I spotted Indigo sitting on one of the benches under a large oak tree. She was engrossed in a book, her brow furrowed in concentration. A mischievous idea popped into my head.
Indigo had always been the one to tease me, to bring out my playful side, even when I was buried in work. I figured it was about time I returned the favor. With a grin, I quietly approached her, making sure to stay out of her line of sight. When I was just a few feet away, I cleared my throat dramatically.
"Hey, Sunshine," I said, using the nickname I had come up with for her. I had never actually used it out loud before, but today felt like the right moment.
Indigo jumped slightly, her book nearly slipping from her hands as she turned to face me. Her eyes widened in surprise, and then a slow smile spread across her face. "Did you just call me Sunshine?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
I shrugged, trying to maintain a casual demeanor. "Yeah. I figured it suits you."
She laughed, the sound of warmth. "Sunshine, huh? Coming from Mr. Straightforward, that's quite the surprise."
I felt a flush flowing up my neck, but I didn't let it me. "Well, I thought it was time I added a bit of sparkle to my vocabulary."
Indigo shook her head, still smiling. "You're full of surprises today, Kook."
I took a seat beside her on the bench, feeling a sense of ease settle over me. "So, what are you reading?"
She held up the book, showing me the cover. "Just a novel I've been meaning to finish. Thought I'd enjoy some peace and quiet before everyone realizes finals are over and the campus gets even more chaotic."
