~fluff~
A/N - could potentially contain angst because of Eddie's death and etc. Also I took a quote from twilight (kinda) because I thought it fit the story-
TW: angst, cussing, anxiety, love.
song recommendation: bellyache - Billie Eilish, Fool - Frankie Cosmos, or I Can't Handle Change by Roar

Steve lay in his bed awake staring at the sealing. Since the death of Eddie, he hasn't been the same. The man would try to act normal like nothing happened when he was hanging out with his friends, but when he was alone he would break down. His anxiety was taking over him, he couldn't handle it anymore. The guilt of not being able to save the one he loved was taking over him. The brunette had developed several habits, Those including carrying music tapes around with him, no Kate Bush ones because those had absolutely fucking traumatized him. Carrying his nailed bat in the trunk of his car, just in case of emergencies. And finally, Eddie Munson's vest. The one he had 'borrowed' him before he died. And why was it a habit? Well, whenever Steve was alone, he would wear it.
Steve had never washed the vest. Why? you may ask. It was because of its scent. Eddie's scent. It smelt like weed, but also, flowers, sweet flowers. But not just any flowers, no. They smelt like the flowers from the field he and Steve used to hang out in when they were young and innocent. Before anything happened. Before popularity. Steve and Eddie used to be mates throughout middle school, that's until they got into high school, when everything changed. The short-haired male became popular, and left Eddie behind with not a hint of regret, at least that's what people thought. Steve regretted all of it from the beginning but still didn't do anything about it. While Eddie cried at night wondering why his so-called 'friend' had done this to him.
Steve felt like he lost his fucking mind. What was he doing, laying in bed, like he had so many times before? It was way too late to deal with this infamous bullshit, the male was too tired for this. Steve closed his eyes, letting the world take him. The brunette soon fell asleep, waking up in a place way too familiar to him. He was in the field of flowers, the smell intoxicating him, it was like a drug to him. Steve got up at a slow pace, no rush in this. He looked around, memories coming back to him. He walked up to the trees around him, looking for a specific one. The one he and Eddie had carved their initials into. He found it, tracing his hands over it, feeling the texture.
Steve looked at the tree, rethinking his actions. The male was lost in thought, that was until he heard a sound. But not just any sound. It was the sound of a guitar. The song that was played was way too familiar for him. It was the song Steve would beg for hours on end, for Eddie to play, in this field. His favorite song, by one of Eddie's favorite bands. Solitude by Black Sabbath. The song was calming, it remembered him of Eddie. Steve listened to this song every day since he and Eddie stopped being friends, it was comforting to him, it would be the song that would save him, especially when Eddie sang it.
Steve followed the familiar sound until he saw a mysterious figure. He immediately knew who it was, Eddie. But how? Steve walked forward to the male and stared at him. Their eyes connected, Steve sat down, Eddie suddenly stopped playing the guitar, and Steve stared at him, "Why'd you stop?" Steve questioned softly, "To look at you..." Eddie answered, putting his hand on Steve's cheek, caressing it slowly. The short-haired male smiled, Eddie smiled back, "I've missed you," Steve paused, putting his hand on Eddie's, "So, so much..." the male finished, "I've missed you too, Stevie..." Eddie started, "I knew you'd come back to me one day..." he whispered, connecting his forehead to Steve's.
The two males stayed in that position, enjoying each other's presence, like they hadn't in a long time, which was true. They laid down on the field like they had so many times before. Both of the males looked up at the sky, it was filled with clouds. Memories rushed in Steve's head. Every time they would come to this specific place, it was their spot, they would lay down and watch the clouds, pointing out what each one looked like, both boys would do that for hours until the sun set, and the clouds would be gone. Steve stared lovingly at the male who laid next to him. the love of his life, and the first person Steve had ever loved in his whole life.
Steve kept looking at Eddie, admiring all his features, he looked perfect to Steve. This time the other male looked back at Steve with a smile. That smile melted Steve. It made him feel all fluffy inside, butterflies in his stomach, his cheeks reddening, he smiled back. Steve pulled Eddie closer, feeling their breaths on their skin, their noses touching. Both males inched forward their lips touching. Steve's hand tangled in Eddie's hair, whilst Eddie's hand was placed in Steve's cheek. They kissed passionately, it felt like a dream. They pulled away slowly, and stared into each other's eyes like they had done moments before, they smiled at each other. Steve pulled Eddie into an everlasting hug, the other male hugged back, slipping his hands on Steve's waist. Both of them closed their eyes slowly, soon falling into a deep slumber in the field filled with beautiful flowers.
Steve woke up in his bed. He looked around for Eddie but he wasn't there. Steve felt tears running down his face, it was all a dream... none of it was real. The male sobbed into his pillow, running out of breath, feeling his hands starting to shake, he grabbed the soft pillow tighter letting all his emotions out, the ones he had been holding for so long, all the pain, the anger, the sadness. Steve began to question why. Why had Eddie ever loved him? He was a mess, tears stained his cheeks, his hair was messy, he was emotionally unstable. He loved Eddie, but he wasn't able to save him, he sobbed more.
Then it hit him. Was this what Eddie wanted? For Steve to be crying... Eddie hated seeing Steve cry. He loved Steve, and Steve loved him.
