Whoever invented this whole "work" thing? Yeah, they can go eat a dick or two.

I turn my car off immediately after parking, not bothering to wait for Marcus as I unbuckle and get out. I don't necessarily mean to, but I slam the door once I grab my bags from the backseat. I hear him scrambling and calling out behind me, but I keep walking. I take the stairs two at a time, haphazardly pointing my key over my shoulder and clicking the lock button, and I pick up my pace as soon as I hear the beep.

"Eden! Are we really back to this? I thought we were good this mo-"

"This isn't about you, Marcus!" I holler back down at him. He huffs before starting up the second set of stairs, a faint mumble of "women make no sense" earning him an eye roll that he can't see as I reach our floor.

By the time he gets into the apartment, I've already pulled down a glass and poured myself a shot of tequila. Moose stops jumping at my feet to go greet him, forcing Marcus to try dodging puppy kisses as he bends over to catch his breath.

"Looks like we need more cardio when we're at the gym if the stairs bothered you that much," I sarcastically tease before downing my shot, secretly hoping it'll steer him away from asking about why my panties are in a twist. Glancing back towards the door, Marcus is now in a heap on the floor. Moose has perched himself in his lap, blissfully unaware of the withering stare my friend is directing at me.

"We didn't go to the gym at all last week!" He argues with an exasperated grunt, continuing to scratch Moose behind his ears. Leaving the tequila and my shot glass out on the island, I roll my eyes again and move into the living room.

"I was too busy moping around because I was cheated on, what's your excuse?" I retort as I collapse onto the loveseat. Moose happily trots over, jumping to sit at my side.

"You weren't going, so I didn't either!"

"Just because I wasn't going doesn't mean that you couldn't go!"

"I don't like going by myself and you know that! I needed my spotter, Eden."

"You could've asked Mattie or Graham!"

"Children, children," the blonde of the two aforementioned devils speaks. I turn my head as best I can with the way I have it resting against the seatback, spying Mattie standing by their bedroom and looking a little too amused for my current liking.
