As you sat back down next to your journal, you closed it without looking on the back of the page, where Klaus wrote his message for you.
"Thank you for putting that up for me." You tell him. He smiles and nods.
"Of course." His smile seems somewhat sad, and it almost looks like there's tears waiting in his eyes.
"Klaus. Are you okay?" You ask him, starting to bring your hand up to his shoulder to comfort him. He stops you, gently grabbing your hand and holding it for a second.
"I'm fine, (Y/N)." He smiles, but the crack in his voice gives away that it's a lie.You don't want to pressure to him, so you decide to not ask further. "I don't think you are. But, I'm not going to force you to tell me anything. Just know that I'm here for you if you ever ever need me, okay?" You make eye contact with him, making sure that he's actually listening to what you're telling him, and not merely hearing the words.
"Mmhm, okay." He says back, nodding his head and trying to not cryHe excuses himself to the bathroom and you can hear him crying on the other side of the door.
You turn to look at Ben but he isn't here anymore. You hear him on the other side of the door trying to comfort Klaus.
You knock on the door gently. You hear Klaus gasp. "Hey, Klaus? You okay? I can hear you crying, I just want to be sure you're fin-"
"Nonono I'm okay, (Y/n), don't worry about me!" He laughed. You know he isn't but decide that if he doesn't want to talk to you, he won't.
You flip open your journal to write but see what Klaus wrote.
"Oh.." you say out loud, realizing.
"Yeah. That." Ben says from behind you. You didn't notice him there. When did he leave Klaus alone in there? Who knows. With that thought, you hear Klaus rummaging around in his bathroom.
He's getting high again, isn't he?The door is locked, there's not really much you can do. Ben is a ghost and can't do anything Klaus doesn't want him to. You're definitely not going to bother Five and make him jump through the door. He's busy being a condescending prick to the other siblings over something, as usual.
So, you wait. You wait about 15 minutes and he comes back out, in a much better mood. When he steps out, you hug him. He's caught off guard, but he hugs back.
"Klaus.." you loosen your grip around him a bit to look at him. "I read what you wrote."
He gently lays your head back against his chest again, resting his chin on your head."I'm sorry, (Y/n)." He says.
He knows that you know he's high right now.
"I can't lose you, Klaus." You say after a few seconds. After holding you for a couple more minutes, in silence, he lets go of the hug and walks to his bed to sit down. You follow him, standing in front of him as he sits on the edge of his bed. He takes you hands.
He takes a deep breath before speaking. "It's just, I'm not the most stable Hargreeves, y'know? I-... If something happened to me, you'd still have Five and Diego-"
You interrupt him.
"But I want you, Klaus, I want to talk to you and I want to share a room with you and I want you to be my big brother and I know you're not the most stable, but that's okay, that's why I trust you and I want to be around you. Do you understand me?" You're holding his hands a little tighter now.He looks at you, a mix of his sad puppy face and a look of confusion.
You look at him, eyes watering. You care so much about him and he thinks he's nothing. It breaks your heart. You take a shaky breath. "Klaus, you understand how I feel and think. You understand me more than anyone else." You say, voice starting to crack.
"I need you." You say, your voice barely even a whisper.
You feel a tear fall down your cheek as you say that. You sniffle and you see Five in the corner of your eye.
"Oh my god- when did you-?"
"Are you done with your heart-warming sibling moment yet? We're being attacked. I need to take you two somewhere safe."
