10 minutes later Mr. Rawlings locked us in the gym and left the fucking building.
"Did he just leave," Gareth asked incredulously.
"Looks like it," Eddie shrugged.
"Can he even do that?"
The boys turned to me and raised their eyebrows.
"Aren't you the girl that's supposedly from the big bad city of Chicago where all the delinquents go? I would think you guys are basically in Fort Knox when you get to detention."
I rolled my eyes and Eddie shrugged.
"Guess they don't lock you guys up out there like I thought."
"As a matter of fact they do not. Well...I guess they kinda do. Usually we're in a classroom though not an entire gym. The kids back home would fuck this place up unsupervised...like we'd never be allowed in here without several adults present."
"Wild," Gareth mused, jumping onto the bleachers.
"Yeah here they kinda discipline cuz they have to I think," Eddie nodded as Gareth jumped from bleacher to bleacher out of sheer boredom.
I got off the bench to give Gareth more room and sat down next to Eddie, who was leaning against the wall next to the bleachers.
"Yeah I kinda got that vibe when Rawlings forgot he was supposed to be watching three students that magically disappeared from the front office under his supervision."
Eddie grinned at me and turned his head to watch Gareth hop around on the bleachers.
"Exactly. Maybe that's why your buddy Chris was so pissy; he knows there's not much the school will do about us," he gestured at himself and then at Gareth.Gareth noticed and hopped down to come sit next to us.
"What are we talkin about?"
"Her friend," Eddie sighed, "And this god awful school."
Gareth nodded knowingly and sat on the other side of me, his shoulder softly touching my shoulder (though I couldn't tell if it was accidental or not).
"Ahh yes; he's a fun one. I still don't understand what crawled up his ass and died that's made him so anti-freak though. We're a pretty fun time," Gareth grinned.
"Your guess is as good as mine," I shrugged, "He's been more aggressive about it than usual. I mean when I first got here him and the twins gave me a shit load of reasons to avoid you guys and I kinda believed them. At least I believe that they believed those things."
Eddie and Gareth nodded and we all stared up at the ceiling thinking about the past few hours.
"That's actually why I ended up at Hellfire my first day," I finally admitted.
Eddie sat up and looked at me with a victorious look on his face.
"I fucking knew it! There was no shot the new girl made her way into a club on the first day and got accepted immediately."
I snorted and shrugged at him.
"Well actually I was invited to join a club that day. Chess Club wanted me to sub for someone after I told them I knew how to play during 4th period. I almost accepted too."
Eddie's brow furrowed and he sat back against the wall.
"Oh. And here I was getting all excited thinking the new girl was put on the untouchable outcast list with us right off the bat."
I shook my head and laughed.
"Yeahhh no luck there. But I never ended up going otherwise I would've missed the weird Hellfire initiation you guys put me through. And obviously a ton of clubs wanted me cuz like you guys said," I stood up and bowed dramatically, "I'm pretty charming when I wanna be."
Both dudes stared at me with a mixed look of respect and mild jealousy.
"Yeah well congrats I guess," Gareth shrugged.
"Why don't you sit down before you make us freaks feel too bad about ourselves y/n."I shook my head and started slowly walking around the gym taking in our surroundings. I had Health this semester instead of PE so I hadn't seen this part of the school yet and was mildly intrigued by it. There were basketball hoops set at the right height for actual play and I turned to the boys surprised.
"Do they have a team here?"
Seeing my pointing at the hoops, Eddie hopped up and walked over to stare up at the hoop with me.
"Yup. Douchebags," he muttered under his breath.
"Yeah? Are they all like that or do you just hate them all on principle?"
"The latter," Eddie sighed, "but I think I'm right. Who even gives a shit about sports and actually has themselves convinced it matters? We're the shrimpiest school in the tri-state area no doubt sooo no one's gonna be scared of our jocks."
Gareth smiled and walked over to us.
"Exactly! No matter how high they wear those stupid ass shorts on their waists, we're doomed to being the least intimidating team in Indiana off skill alone."
I grinned pityingly at them and glanced at the team mascot suit lying limp behind the bleachers.
"Poor kid. Imagine being the one to climb into that thing and sweat for a team no one likes," I pointed.
They both saw the suit and laughed.
Damn y/n, makin the freaks fold already. Nice job.
"So do you guys usually break out of detention before the half hour mark or are you just humoring me by pretending to be law abiding citizens?," I asked.
"Can't it be both?," Eddie grinned.
"Sure. But I'm bored now and am super ready to get out of here soooo if either of you know how to pick locks that would be a sick skill to use right about now."
Eddie held his hands up in surrender, "Sorry dude. My old man only taught me how to hotwire, not pick locks."
"Only? You poor thing. Well...what about you Emerson? Got any bright ideas?"
Gareth raised an eyebrow at me when I used his last name but didn't object.
"Uhhh nope. Unless," he started walking towards the back of the gym, "Maybe coach left his door unlocked."
"Oh shit. I'm guessing he's got a spare for the doors," I asked.
"Yes ma'am," Gareth called over his shoulder as he began jogging towards the tiny office tucked away behind the farthest wall.
