"She's almost seventeen. She can surely date someone."
Out of the corner of my eye, I notice my mother shake her head.
"And both of you are dating women? I mean.. there's nothing wrong with that, but-"
Suisei glances towards my discouraged figure before turning back to our parents. "There's nothing wrong with that."
Papamachi finds a way to change the subject, releasing the tension in the air between us. "Where's Anemachi?"
I sit up, but look in Suisei's direction as a cue for her to answer the question.
"She's home with Mikeneko."
I raise my index finger quickly. "My girlfriend."
Our dad looks puzzled, blinking a few times. "Aren't you worried about-"
Suisei and I quickly shake our heads.
"And you've been dating two months?"
I nod.
"Miko and I have been dating for almost six months," Suisei adds.
"But Miko doesn't live with you?"
"Nah," Suisei shakes her head. "But she stays over a few nights a week. Anemachi always cooks extra."
Both of our parents have looks of confusion upon their faces. "Mikeneko does live with you?"
"Yeah.. it's kind of a long story."
"Care to tell us?"
".."

"Suisei, you know I could just stay in Anemachi's room." I run my fingers against the wall as we enter the room we shared until we moved out of our family home.
Suisei shakes her head, patting the twin bed in the far corner of the room.
"Nah. I would love to share a room again, even if it's just for a couple of nights."
I plop down next to Suisei, the older girl wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
Both Suisei and I reach into our pockets at the same time, a vibration coming from both of our cell phones. We both read a LINE message from Anemachi, a smile growing on each of our faces.
Attached is a picture of Mikeneko and Mikochi eating on our couch, Anemachi's famous curry in hand.
"You must miss her, huh? Your first night away from her in months," Suisei elbows my rib cage, a pained groan escaping from my lips. "Aww, Rii. Don't be a baby."
I roll my eyes, tackling Suisei onto the floor similar to what we did as kids.
"Ah- get off me! No, seriously-" I finally loosen my grip, and Suisei sighs. "I missed this, Rii."
"I missed this too."
—————
A muffled voice pierces my ears. "Ah! When will you be home, Rii-chan?"
I lift the phone slightly off my ear, pausing for a moment. "I think it'll only be a couple days."
All I hear on the other side is a sigh before complete silence.
"You'll have fun with Anemachi, yeah? As long as she's not working, I'm sure she'll spend time with you," I say into the phone.
My ears are met with another sigh. "But I miss you."
I laugh. "I'll be home soon, babe. Have some fun without me."
I can almost hear my girlfriend's face turning red on the other side of the phone. A smile spreads on my face, familiar with the small girl's antics.
