Over the past few days, Sesshomaru, Rin, Jaken and A-Un traveled across the countryside to the nearest village for supplies and food. Being a demon, sesshomaru wasnt the one to really need such trivial things but seeing as it's been a while since a female has accompanied him, he assumed it would be the same daunting tasks as it was with Rin.
He wouldn't be the one to admit to it, but he missed Rin's company. He knew that his travels would become too dangerous the older she would get but the decision to leave her with Kaede in Kikyo's old village was, although a difficult, but a necessary one.
He sat under the tree, watching Chiho and Jaken engage in light conversation. As she began to regain her strength, she did more to earn her positioning among the group. She kept up its A-Un and kept Jaken's trivial murmurs to him at a minimum. It was. . . Pleasant, to see Jaken meet his match in wits and even learn something that he didnt know he needed to know.
"Jaken, you're never going to catch a decent fish this way! Here,"
His golden eyes studied Chiho carefully. He watched her hike up the hem of her kimono without reluctance, fasten a makeshift net with rope and twine, and cast it into the river that her and Jaken stood in.
It wasnt long before she caught the biggest fish that even he had seen on the side of the countryside.
"Impressive! How does a common whore know how to fish so well?"
Chiho's face splotched red in an instant. While Jaken turned his back to her to toss his net into the water, he caught her "accidentally" turning her net around and trapping Jaken with the fish.
"Heh." A small smirk spread across his lips. She was a witty one, he will say that.
She was definitely one of a million mysteries. It crossed his mind as well how, someone who was trained to be a concubine since she was young, was so easy to get her feet dirty and survive so easily.
Chiho turned her face towards him briefly. He must not have noticed how intently he was watching her but the blush across her face made it clear he may need to reel it back a little bit.
She moved a stray lock of hair behind her ear, trying her best not to lock eyes with him again. Luckily for her, Jaken tripped and splashed into the water. He was still flailing with the fish in the makeshift net.
"Sir Jaken! Hold on I'm coming!"
Sesshomaru, scoffing softly, looked towards the opposite end of the river. It would be another day till the reached the nearest village. He could smell different meals of beef, chicken, fish, and incense. It must be a more popular village since smaller villages didnt have the livestock, or the resources to hold those many meats in one area.
The wind began to shift. He could smell the nearest Lilly's to the east and the strawberry fields to the northeast of here. He remembered a small conversation between Jaken and Chiho one night where she mentioned wanting to buy some strawberries when she visited the village if they had any. If they didn't, it might be nice to take her there.
Just then, something in his mind turned the simple thought to something sour. He remembered that she was, and still technically is, Kojitsu's whore. He owned her, and he was risking his time and his patience escorting her across the lands to her "home."
For all he knew, it would be an ambush.
But for all he cared, if it was, he would just kill her.
For another demon, he had a slightly higher patience for consideration. And something in him made him want to do her the favor of ridding her from such a lecherous brat who called himself a demon.
He knew if he were to bring her back, she would die. And he didnt want to give that bastard the satisfaction.
The wind shifted again. He closed his eyes to enjoy the floral and fruited scents while Jaken and Chiho dried themselves offf near the fire. They were preparing to rest for the night before the sun fully slumbered downwards the horizon. With firewood in Jaken's hand and Chiho diligently scaling the fish, he found the chance to relax.
And then another scent crossed his path. Sweet oraanges and jasmine danced across his nostrils with diligence. How odd, there weren't any orange or jasmine fields within range, not to mention at this pungency, it would mean that-
His eyes slowly opened as the smell continued to waft his direction. While she was gutting the fish he connected the dots that it was her. And it was a mixture of aromas he rather enjoyed.
Although it would be a priority to keep his distance, it wouldn't harm anyone to keep her around.
