the ocean meets the moon

The sounds of the river started off as a distant echo. Something so real yet serene at the same time. Chiho felt like her body was floating amongst the waves, being caries away from her worries and all of her past short comings. She could hear the lazy babbling and even the chirping of nearby birds.

If this was heaven, what was the point in waking up.

"Mmh..." how long had she been dreaming? What was an actual dream and what was her reality?

"Mmh.." the sounds of birds and running water grew louder and louder as her conscousness began to restore. This wasn't a dream. She wasn't being drifted off to heaven how she imagined. She was alive.

She was alive!

Slowly, she opened her eyes, adjusting to the beaming sun and everflowing thicket of trees circling above her.

"Ah! My lord! She's awake. What should I do?"

Lord? Clenching and unclenching her fists, her body began to wake up. She could feel the weight of her body little by little from her feet up to her chest. Her neck felt incredbly stiff and the roof of her mouth interlocked her tongue, refusing to let go.

She was extremely thirsty, and even more tired the more she awoke. Where was she?

"Hm.. Where-" she sat herself up, vision still adjusting in front of her. When the blurry figures adjusted itself she realized the two faces looking back at her weren't too unfamiliar.

"You two-!" she gasped. Attempting to jump up to flee, her knees buckled at the sudden shift in pressure, causing her to collapse.

The wind was knocked out of her and she suddenly felt weak all over again.

"What the hell- what did you do to me?" she spat, leaning her body to one side so she wouldn't fall completely over.

"What did we Do?! You ungrateful wench!" Jaken interjected, staff raised above his head. "If you must know, Sesshomaru saved your life! You were on the brink of death as I, Jaken, found you at the edge of the riverbank so many Tan (Equivalent to acres) ago! If anything, you should be thanking Lord Sesshomaru for saving your life from that ornamented whore house!" Jaken crossed his arms triumphantly. He felt he had did a service to Sesshomaru, saying what needed to be said without Sesshomaru ever having to say it.

Sesshomaru, on the other hand, remained in position against a large boulder. His arm was rested on the opposing knee while he took a break from traveling - he couldn't see himself willingly continuing on in such sweltering heat.

When Sesshomaru neither praised or scolded Jaken, he turned around nervously, beads of sweat collecting on his brow in worry.

"My Lo-"

"What do you mean, Tan? How far have I been with you all?"

Jaken sucked his teeth, turning back at Mei with a scowl.

"7 moons so far. And 7 moons too long if you ask me."

"7 moons?! 8 days? No, that can't be right. That means-"

"Yes, lass. You were unconscious for the lot of those 8 days. Murmuring needlessly as poor A-Un kept you on her back. For someone in such a spitfire attitude. You should be gra-!"

"Jaken." Sesshomaru finally spoke, his expression stoned and lips formed in a neutral, unphased line.

"Ah! Y-yes my lord?"

"Take A-Un to graze."

"Ah! Why of course. A-U- h-hey!" A-Un was already ahead of Jaken, diligently stomping over to the fields ahead of her to happily graze away from the heated exchange. Jaken, with staff waving frantically over his head, scurried into the fields to accompany her as well.

Chiho and Sesshomaru sat in front of another, neither saying a word. Chiho pulled her bottom lip in, her heart beating frantically in her ears. She didn't know what to expect from this stranger, he was so hard to read. But the fact he was so hard to read made her feel almost challenged.

He smelled funny to her. Almost like lavender mixed with incense. As the wind picked up around him, the smell entangled itself into her nostrils, almost knocking her off her feet.

"So you're Sesshomaru. A-are you going to take me back there?" she asked, referring to the castle. Or castle Ruins As one could imagine.

Sesshomaru said nothing, only continue to look at her. She fidgeted in her clothes, feeling his eyes burn a hole through her flesh.

"Are you going to say anything? As much as I would love a silent exchange I need to kno-"

"Do you know that you're a demon?"

Chiho's brows furrowed in confusion. "A demon? So i've been told but what-"

"Tell me how does a demon become a whore to another demon? An immature one at that with subpar battle skills. Give me a reason not to take you back there."

Chiho pulled her clothes closer to her skin, her cheeks burning hot.

"I.. I don't have a reason. I- I just want to go back and see my family. If you take me there you can leave me there, and whatever happens after that will be my responsibility alone. Just- please don't take me back to Kojitsu. I'll do anything, just pl-"

Sesshomaru chuckled in amusement, tilting his head to the side ever so slightly. In a blink of an eye, Sesshomaru disappeared in a ray of light only to re-appear atop of Chiho. His deep golden eyes watched her shaken expression underneath him. He could smell the blood pooling through her veins in heightened anticipation. He almost pitied her how shamelessly she readied herself though the smell of fear permeated his nostrils to no end. It wouldn't be fun to lay with something so ready to be devoured.

She knew this was going to happen. This was all she knew. All she anticipated. All she feared. For so many years she knew the routine. So much that the words escaped her mouth easily even despite her heart expressing full reluctance.

As a whore you had no reluctance.

Her heart raced, cheeks blazen and skin damping in sweat. She could hear her heart in her ears as she closed her eyes.

She prayed for whatever to happen to be quick. But when the looming shadow disappeared from over her, she only grew more confused. When she sat up, she saw Sesshomaru already heading the direction of the fields where A-un and Jaken seemed to be arguing.

"We're changing your clothes. Don't get in my way or i'll kill you myself. You're no longer a whore so don't result to such trivial acts of appreciation."
