A little bored I started to play with my pen on the table. In front of me was a pile of documents, which had yet to be reviewed. But not from me, after all, I was the one who had to fill them out, not to mention that I had looked over them up to ten times already. So often that my vision was getting blurry just by looking at them. The random clicking of my pen transformed into a melody and I started to hum along.
"Antonio, if you won't stop this annoying sound I will take that pen and ram it up your rear end and let you bleed out." A rather annoyed voice raised itself behind me. "Klarissa won't be here earlier, if you annoy the living hell out of me."
Tired, I rotated my head toward my red haired colleague, whose dark brown eyes were burning itself into mine. The piercings in her ears reflected the light of the ceiling lamp as if to support the flames of her eyes, while the edge of her mouth twitched, making her mole dance. Her white uniform looked a little dishevelled but that didn't bother anyone, as long as Steve didn't know about it. Her name was Wendy Ivemeyer. She was a thirty four year old woman and the secretary and assistant of Steve Clever, the current chancellor of Germany.
"Sorry." I mumbled and put the pen away.
Her strict gaze softened and she shook her head, making her bound hair fly. "You can continue once I'm out of your office, until then, restrain yourself." She sighed but grinned a little. "Today wasn't an easy day for me either."
"Seems like our mister President has a lot of work for you." I commented, making her sigh anew.
"No, it's the opposite." She explained. "Everything seems calm nowadays, so I'm basically sucking my work out of my fingertips... Is that how you say this in German?" I shrugged and another sigh escaped her lips. "Klarissa is going to kill me... Anyway, have you seen the... you know, the Raven-Code documents?"
"What? Why?" I sat up from my rotating chair and looked at her. "I thought Scotland EyE had... them taken care off already..."
"It appears to be not the case." Wendy went through the files inside the shelfs. "The tom just came to me earlier and told me, he had seen one of them on the cameras in the Utopia headquarters. I think it was the boy."
I felt all warmth drain from my body. How can this be? They were sure that they had... taken care of that family back then...
"But didn't the dog say... well, you know?" I tried to convey to her and she nodded.
"I don't know what's going on with these animals." Wendy shook her head as her search continued. "Anyways, the tom wants me to take a look at them again, if I have nothing better to do."
I slowly nodded before turning back to my desk. If I could just do something... that family had done nothing wrong, why do they have to go? They're only protecting what they think is important to them...
Suddenly, the door slammed open with a loud bang, ripping me out of my thoughts like some of the files from the shelf. But the person didn't care. Inside the door frame stood a very serious looking, bright blonde woman with also very bright blue-green eyes, with which she fixated me. Her white uniform had seen better days than Wendy's. This woman was Klarissa Oyen. She was thirty five years old and a former sportswoman and teacher, who worked now as a co secretary and assistant of Steve.
I was still speechless as I stared at her for a long moment, when suddenly her sharp expression turned into a wide grin. "Caught you red handed." Klarissa grinned. "Just admit it, you little love birds, there is something going on between you two."
