"Ugh, why do I have to do this for the dumb legacy of my older brother?" said Eddie, as he angrily walked into the bandroom on the first day of band camp. As Eddie sat down on the floor and pondered his being, a familiar face walked in the door.
Carson, Eddies long time best friend had joined band as well and was going to march clarinet. After seeing the joy and relief on Eddie's face, Carson asked, "What's all the excitement for?"
"I really don't want to be here, so I'm glad that I at least have one friend to complain to." exclaimed Eddie as he lowered the tone of his voice.
"Oh... I'm sure marching band can't be that bad! You gotta look on the bright side of things. I'll be right next to you all the way." said Carson, excitedly.
"I guess." said Eddie.
"Hey, Band!" yelled Mr. Doherty.
"Hey what?" yelled the rest of the upperclassmen, excited for another year of band camp.
"So today we'll be doing basics and then do sectionals. After that I'm gonna need everyone back in the bandroom. See you all later." said Doherty, releasing the band to scatter into their basics block on the football field. While putting their instrument cases and bags next to each other, Eddie and Carson talked for a little bit before they had to learn basics. In the basics block they stood across from each other and exchanged the occasional wink whenever they had the chance.
During sectionals that day, Eddie stood right behind Carson with his bari sax as Carson played beautiful melody tunes. During water breaks they would gossip about the rest of the band and play roblox together.
When going back to the band room at the end of the day, Eddie and Carson spoke about how much fun they'd have together in the future. "You any more excited for marching band now, Eddie?" asked Carson.
"Not at all, but I'm glad that I'll have you by my side all the way through it. You're probably gonna be the reason I don't quit, Carson."
Soon after they got into the band room, Destina (Literally the best, should have been the main character lol) yelled "Band Ten Hut!" and the band repeated the phrase "Ten Hut" back.
As he was walking out, Carson realized that he had forgotten his instrument in the band room and ran to get it. Luckily, he collided with Eddie, who was about to give it to him. As Carson thanked his friend for his clarinet, the two made eye contact which was quickly broken by the beeping of Eddie's car. "See you tomorrow, Carson!" said Eddie, happily.
"Bye, Eddie!" said Carson back, in awe at his friends kind jester. As Carson sat on the bench for his parent to come and get him, he thought about how happy he is to have Eddie as the feelings of excitment for the next day flooded through him.
