Everything from the past few months rang throughout Andy Herrera's head. Her relationship with Jack, her friendship with Maya, her dad's cancer. Now she had something else to add to the list. Her breakup with Jack. All these things, not little things, big events, led her to where she was, sitting alone in Joe's Bar, downing her fourth shot of tequila for the night.

Passing by was Peyton Karev, a neurosurgeon at the hospital across the street. Making her way to a table where her brother and his fiance were sitting, the downhearted firefighter caught her attention to a point where she couldn't help but stop.

"Hey, Joe, let me get two of what she's having on my tab."

"You got it."

Andy looked up, meeting the face of the woman who had made the kind gesture. "Thanks." Joe placed the glasses in front of the women. As Peyton was just pressing the small glass to her lips, Andy was already placing hers down.

"Someone who drinks like that is either having problems with their boss or their boyfriend." Peyton set her now empty glass down.

"The latter. Well, I guess he's not my boyfriend anymore. And he's sort of my boss." She muttered, relaying her thoughts out loud. "It's kind of a complicated, long story."

"I have time for a long story."

Andy laughed, unsure how to respond. "I don't even know your name."

Peyton chuckled. "Sorry, right, I'm Peyton Karev. I'm a neurosurgeon at the hospital across the street."

Andy hesitated, putting her hands on her lap and fully turning to face the surgeon. "I'll tell you my story if you buy me another drink."

"I don't even know your name." Peyton responded sardonically, a smirk resting on her lips.

"Andy Herrera. I'm a firefighter at the station down the block."

"Now that we're acquainted, I think it's time you told me that story."

The next morning, Peyton stood next to her fellow attendings and friends, Carina DeLuca and Arizona Robbins, waiting by the coffee cart for their order. Meredith Grey turned a corner with her two youngest children, a fake smile plastered onto her face.

"Hey! Look. It's family day." Arizona smiled genuinely back at her.

"It's 'Nanny has the flu day and three kids is so many kids day!'" Meredith corrected her.

"I have no kids, thank god. You want my coffee?" Peyton extended her cup to Meredith, pulling it back before she could grab it. "On second thought, I'm hungover and I need this. Carina. You don't have kids. Give her your coffee."

"Fair enough." Carina reached her cup out to the stressed mother in passing.

"Bless you!" The first and only genuine smile Meredith will give all day. Once they were out of distance, Arizona looked back at Peyton confused.

"Thank god?"

"I love watching your kid, I just don't want kids of my own." Peyton put her hands up in defense, Arizona accepting the answer.

She begins to smile again, seeing her roommate, Carina's brother, walk by with his girlfriend, stopping in front of the three attendings. "Good morning."

"Hey."

"You know what we should do? We should do like a breakfast or a pre-work triple date-" Her girlfriend stopped her there. "Never."
