MIKAZUKI STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR, her golden eyes scanning the massive greystone building in front of her, the sound of laughing children echoing in the distance. The memory of Keisuke's funeral was still fresh in her mind, as was the foolish attack led by Léa's henchmen, yet none of those things seemed to matter in grand scheme of things, not when today was the day she was being officially reinstated as a Jujutsu sorceress.
The sorceress pushed the thought to the back of her head, walking towards the entrance of the main hall. The Window followed her closely, he was the same man that had come to get her for her brother's funeral. His name, she had learned, was Amashi Kaede, and he had been working as a liaison between The Magistrate and the Kinzoku clan close to five years.
Mikazuki didn't particularly care about him, but Kaede was far chattier than the first time she'd met him. The sorceress sighed, gaze lingering on the students that still loitered in the school grounds. It was Friday afternoon, classes had been over for about an hour, but there were still people making their way towards the dorms on the other building.
Despite the fact that she hadn't been at the school in a long time, she had wandered the halls and busy buildings enough times for the layout to be familiar. The Kinzoku School for the Gifted was big, far more spacious than its sisters schools in Tokyo and Kyoto. It was also the main institution for Jujutsu sorcerers in Japan – and probably worldwide, with most sorcerers, Windows and Doors having been students at one point or another.
The younger students were strangers, parading around in their black and gold uniforms, the clan colours also a staple of the school. The rest were either seasoned sorcerers teaching at the facility, Windows reporting for duty or sorcerers using the school as the headquarters the way The Magistrate had intended.
Once they reached the main hall, Mikazuki found herself hesitating. The layout of the building was the same and her Endless could sense her father's presence two levels up, but the silent entry made her pause. Kaede seemed to feel it too, but unlike her, he simply strode by, ignoring the odd looks from the students and leading the young sorceress towards the stairs. Even during the summer months, the school was still bustling with life.
Asahi had been the one to choose the school for the meeting. It was nothing grandiose like the funeral or the old-fashioned debutante ball the elders were planning. This meeting was supposed to be simple, all she had to do was sign some paperwork and her status as a special-grade sorceress would be restored. Her exile had been already lifted by The Magistrate, her pardon issued by its Léa Dubois.
Getting back her status as a Jujutsu sorcerer was the first step to becoming the Kinzoku heiress, not that Mikazuki was particularly excited about that part. Although watching her father's empire burn was always a plus.
Once she made it to the top floor after a while of wandering a dodging wayward students, Mikazuki found herself face to face with her father. Asahi would be presiding over the meeting, as a member of The Magistrate, he was the only one with the authority to do so in Japan. Léa was probably busy notifying the families of the Doors she'd killed less than three days ago.
Some of the faces present were familiar; Masamichi Yaga, who had once been her teacher at Jujutsu High was standing on the other side of the room, his body almost as tall and big as the bookcase that lined the wall. Next to him and dressed in a well-fitting suit was Ijichi Kiyotaka, a Window coordinator she'd had the pleasure of meeting prior to her exile, even if rather briefly.
On the other side of the room and almost concealed by the pile of books that rested on the desk were a pair of sorcerers she didn't know, their faces vaguely familiar. They were probably special-grade sorcerers who had been invited as witnesses, making sure that the meeting followed protocol. Ah, The Magistrate and its endless bureaucracy.
