Ya Siyyama had been angry with me ever since I confessed to obtaining Imran's contact from her phone without her consent.

She stopped talking to me and also stopped answering my greetings, not even the SALAM that is mandatory to respond to in Islam. It was as if we had never known each other before.

Well, it was all my fault. I shouldn't have done what I did in the first place knowing fully I wasn't good at keeping secrets...

"Minal!" Our mom yelled my name as she walked into my room, "What did I told you guys in the morning about microwaving the chicken in the freezer?"

"Chicken?" I blurted.

"No, fish!" she shouted at me, "Didn't I told you and Siyyama to microwave that chicken before I come back?"

"Oh, I thought Ya Siyyama has done that already ai" I replied surprised.

"No, she didn't!" she said freaking me out with the way she was raising her voice.

"Oh, okay mom. No problem, I will go and do that now" I said and quickly took off the hijab I lately wore before she barged in.

"Better, lazy children kawai!" she hissed and then left.

That was odd. I mean, so unusual of her. And to say I was bewildered is an understatement. Perhaps she had engaged in a little argument with someone lately before coming back from her visitation.

Allah ya kyauta! I heaved a sigh and dropped my hijab on the bed. Then I headed out of the room and went straight to the kitchen.

I was supposed to be on my way to Rumaisah's house now for her cousin's birthday but here I was!

When I arrived at the kitchen, I saw Ya Siyyama slicing the vegetables. I didn't say anything to her, I only walked over to the refrigerator and took the chicken from the freezer section.

While placing it on the microwave's plate, her phone rang and she picked. "Kai, wai me ke damun ka ne? Didn't I warned you to not call me again?" she hissed and ended the call. She didn't mention the caller's name, and that made me wondered who the person was. Was it Imran?

When I was done microwaving the chicken, I removed it from the microwave and took it to the counter. Finally, I am done! I said to myself.

But just as I was about heading out of the kitchen, Ya Siyyama called me back. "Am I the one to cut the chicken for you? Better come and do it yourself fa!" she said.

Surprisingly, our mom came into the kitchen and asked if I was done microwaving the chicken.

"Yes, I am done" I responded.

"Okay, good!" she uttered, took a knife from the cutlery holder and began cutting the chicken into parts by herself.

To say I was happy is an understatement. I was so happy. Ya Siyyama however wasn't happy at all, she rolled her eyes at me and continued with her work.

"Mom, yawwa about the birthday invitation I told you yesterday. Can I..." I said as she cut in,

"Yes, please. Go!" she exclaimed as if sending me away.

"Okay, sai na dawo" I bade her goodbye and went back to my room.

Hence, I wore back my hijab, took my bag from the bedside table and glanced at my reflection in the delicate mirror before heading out to my car at the parking lot.

Bismillah! I started the engine...

When I arrived at Rumaisah's house, I found her already prepared and waiting for me in their compound together with two of her younger siblings.

"So it's now that you are coming? Tun dazu fa muke ta jiran ki, I even tried your contact but it was unreachable" she complained.

"Sorry about that, wallahi na dan yi busy ne" I apologized.

"Okay then, let's go koh? But wait a minute, why did you wear hijab? Come on, you should have worn veil ai!" she complained, looking at me somehow.

"Like seriously?" I chuckled, "Okay next time I will wear veil" I said as she cut in,

"Next time...where? Abegy, let's go inside and get you a veil!" she said.

"Huh?" I wrinkled a brow at her.

"Yes!" she said.

And before I knew it, she started dragging me towards the entrance of their apartment.

"RumRum, please!" I tried to stop her but all efforts to no avail.

She dragged me to her room and persuaded me to take off my hijab and replace it with one of her extra veils.

"Yawwa, ko ke fa?" she complemented my new look, "Wallahi it fits you perfectly" she added, admiring the veil.

"Let's just go!" I rolled my eyes at her and began walking out of the room.

"Hmm, Minal, wait now!" I heard her giggled. She knew what she did hurt me.

We headed to my car, stormed in and drove away together with her siblings.

When we arrived at the venue of the event, I stayed outside in one of the canopies while she and her siblings went into the main house to greet their relatives.

The canopies outside were two, one for women and the other for men. They were both facing each other.

In the women's canopy, it was only me... and then few children. But in the men's side, there were about six grownups and then some kids.

The grownups kept glancing at me every now and then, smiling as if they found their safe haven. So annoying!

When I couldn't take it anymore, I concluded I should go after Rumaisah... into the main house. But just as I was about to do that, a car drove in and parked close to mine in the parking lot.

The car looked exactly like that of Imran, so I decided to wait and see who the driver was. By the way, what exactly could Imran be doing here?
