Seventeen: Because the Night.

*Flashback...*

New York, 1977...

A young couple were walking down a street when

"You were right." She says.

"Told you."

"It was really good." She said, laughing.

"Yeah. Glad you liked it."

"Thanks for inviting me." She says.

"Do it again next weekend?"

"If you're lucky." She smiled.

They carried on walking, and they found a body lying face-down on the ground.

"Oh, God. Is he...? Do you think he's dead?" She asked.

"I... I don't know. Stay there."

He slowly walked over to the body. He looked back, finding the body gone.

The woman with him screamed, turning around to find her on the floor. He ran back over to her.

"You're that serial killer, aren't you? Son of Sam."

"Son of Giuseppe, but close enough." Damon said, biting into his neck.

*End of Flashback...*

With Ellie and Damon, they walked down the busy street...

"You dragged me all the way to New York because Stefan thinks it's probably best."

"No... because in three days, you've pissed literally everyone in Mystic Falls off. More difficult to do in a city of millions." He said.

"Caroline nearly ripped my heart from my chest. I was hungry."

"You were reckless." He says.

"Emotionless. There's a difference."

"All that matters is that when I lived here, I fed like crazy... and had a blast and went undetected for years." He tells her.

"So we're just here to have fun? What's the catch?"

"There is no catch. You wanted out. I got you out for the day. You wanted to feed. I brought you to a city-sized all-you-can-eat buffet. That's the beauty of New York. There's so much life that a little death goes unnoticed." He said.

She smiled.

"Come on, let's go get some lunch." He says.

Later, Stefan walked into the living room, and he was on the phone to Damon...

Stefan: "What do you mean, you took her to New York? That's where I wanted to take her for her birthday."

Damon: "The tone is why I didn't pick up the phone the first 30 times you called. Take her to Paris. It's way more romantic."
