It was almost midnight when Elvis had finally gotten home. After singing a few songs, he was immediately hired by Mr. Huntington, and to celebrate they had a few drinks. Most of the night they talked and smoked cigars; laughing over stories they shared and experiences they had went through. It was a most enjoyable night for Elvis. He had never felt so good. This job only made him feel more confident in his likeliness of become a singer. This was just the start of it all. Red parked in front of Elvis' house, laughing at previous conversation. "Thanks again." Elvis said as he stepped out of the car. "No problem, El," Red said to him as he shut the car door, "Good luck on your first day tomorrow!" Elvis smiled with excitement. "Alright, thanks," Elvis said, "You be careful gettin' home." Red rolled his eyes mockingly and with that, he drove off. Elvis couldn't wipe the smile off of his face as he watched Red drive away. He felt good. He had fun. Elvis turned around to his beautiful home and began to walk up the driveway. "Hey, you." her sweet voice called. Elvis stopped in his steps and turned to the beauty. Lana stood leaning against the white picket fence. "What are you still doin' up?" Elvis asked; making his way over to Lana. She shrugged and replied smugly, "I could ask you the same thing." Elvis put one hand on the fence and another on his hip. "I was just out at some restaurant," Elvis gloated in the most modest way, of course, "I got me a singin' job. Every night from 6pm to 12am." Lana smiled. "I didn't know you like to sing," she said with interest, "It's hard to make it out here. Congratulations, Mr. Presley."
"Thanks," Elvis graced genuinely, "What about you? Can't sleep or somethin'?" Lana's smile slightly faded and she looked rather disappointed. "Something like that," she said sadly, "It's the anniversary of my boyfriend's death. I like to watch the stars in hopes whenever the date comes around. Cliche, I know. But it's true." Elvis felt bad for the girl. He had never known someone to have lost someone they had loved. "I'm sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what that's like." Lana shrugged. She looked down at her feet with a glimpse of hope in her eyes. "I'm alright," she assured him, "It's been two years." She looked back up at Elvis and grinned. "I've moved on," she continued, "I just like to pay my respects, that's all." Elvis nodded and looked up at the stars himself. He hadn't realized how different the skies were in Los Angeles. In Memphis, the sky seemed more wide and stars scattered around all spread out and such. In LA, the sky seemed brighter. Big, yes, but with more clusters of stars. It was beautiful. Even the moon seemed bigger. "The stars sure are somethin'." he mumbled. "Would you like to watch them with me?" Lana asked, causing Elvis to look at her. A blush patted her cheeks at the feel of his eyes against hers. "Just for a while." she said. Elvis figured he didn't have much to do, and the stars were rather amazing. "Sure," he agreed, "I guess I can watch 'em for a bit." Elvis walked around to the front of her picket fence and let himself in through the gate door; closing it properly behind himself. Lana met him halfway before taking his hand and leading him to what she felt was the perfect spot for star watching. They settle their backs, side by side, against the soft fluffy green grass and gazed upon the stars that sparkled like little spotlights in the sky. It was quiet and relaxing. The warmth of the summer night, the sound of crickets, and the sparkle of the stars; it was able to give a person true bliss. And Elvis felt it.
"Where are you from, Elvis?" Lana asked through the silence. "Memphis, Tennessee," Elvis answered with a tired voice, "You?" Lana let out a sigh. "Here," she answered softly, "What's it like? Memphis." Elvis had to think for a moment. He had almost forgotten what home was like. Everything had been moving so quickly here that he hadn't even had the time to think of home. It caused a lump to grow in his throat. It's only been a day and he had almost forgotten where he was from. "It's one of those placed where everybody knows everybody. It's not too small, but it ain't too big either. People are always smilin' and laughin'... I don't think anythin' bad has ever happened over there. Now that I think about it, I sorta miss it. It ain't nothin' like this place. It's a whole other world." Lana looked at Elvis. "It sounds wonderful." she whispered. Elvis let a smirk play on his lips. "It is." he said. Lana turned over on her stomach with a grunt. "Okay," she huffed, "You have to promise to take me there someday." Elvis looked up at her with a questioning smile. "Why me?" he asked curiously. "I won't know anyone else." she said simply. "Fair enough," Elvis said, "I'll do it. I promise." Lana smiled and kissed Elvis on the cheek. It took him by surprise, but by the look on Lana's face, it took her by surprise to. They watched each other, waiting for someone to say something or do something. In an instant Lana bursted into laughter and turned back over onto her back. Her silly laugh was contagious and Elvis couldn't help but laugh either. They weren't sure what they were laughing about, but it didn't matter. And as they're laughter became still, Lana - staring at the stars - softly, spoke. "I like you, Elvis." It sounded more as a friendly gesture to Elvis than anything romantic. A grin tugged at the sides of his mouth. "Yeah," he replied gently, "I like you too." Lana felt a jump in her chest and tried to hide the smile that dared to show.
