Well it's one for the money, Two for the show. Three to get ready, Now go cat go! But don't you step on my blue suede shoes.
The crowd cheered and clapped as the song closed. Elvis gave a bow and smiled to the adoring crowd. He removed the guitar strap from his neck and handed the guitar to one of the backstage men. Elvis stepped off of stage - as a jazz band began to set up behind him - with pats to the back and sweet words from women. They absolutely loved him. And because he was bringing in so much money, so did Mr. Huntington. He made his way over to the bar that was at the end of the room and took a seat on one of the stools. "Hey, you were great." the bartender told him. "Awe, thanks, man," Elvis replied, "Let me get a cold one." The bartender gave him a nod and turned to get Elvis a beer. Elvis looked up at all of the alcohol bottles that sat behind the bar, scanning for which he wanted to quench his thirst with next. But suddenly everything became dark by a pair of hands shielding his eyes. "Guess who." a sweet voice teased. Elvis pulled her hands from his eyes and turned around to see Lana standing in a tight, strapless, navy blue dress. In her hands, she held a bouquet of red roses. "Lana?" he questioned in surprised, "Well, what're you doin' here?" He found it a bit odd that she had found out where he was singing without him telling her, but then again, he didn't mind her company too much. Lana smiled brightly. "To come see you, silly," she said, handing him the flowers, "These are for you." Elvis took the flowers and gave Lana a warm grin. "Awe, you didn't have to do that." He insisted. "Well of course I did," she giggled, "You deserve them! You were absolutely amazing!" Elvis blushed at her sweet gesture. The bartender set Elvis' beer in front of him. "There you are, Sir." he said. "May I get one of those?" Lana asked, batting her big eyes. "Anything for you miss." Lana giggled at the bartenders attempt to flirt, and he had gotten her drink faster than he had gotten Elvis'. "You gotta teach me to do that." Elvis joked. Lana smirked, "It's all in the eyes." Elvis shrugged, setting his flowers on the bar table. "Well if I had big pretty eyes like yours, I'm sure I could get away with a lot of things." he smiled. "You think my eyes are pretty?" she blushed. Elvis took a good look at Lana. "Well, of course I do." he admitted. That only made the blush in Lana's cheeks darken.
"Hey, Elvis!" Red greeted, patting Elvis on the back. "Hey, Red." Elvis greeted back. Red put his arm around Elvis's neck and squeezed him in a side hug. "You did amazing, man!" Red said proudly, "You hear that crowd? They loved you! They were goin' wild -" Red stopped talking at the sight of Lana, and he let Elvis out of his grip. "Well, my, my," he grumbled lustfully, "Who is this gorgeous woman?" Lana rolled her eyes and smiled with embarrassment for Red's attempt to compliment her. She was clearly unimpressed. "This lady is here for Elvis." she retorted. "That doesn't mean we can't share a dance or two." Red continued, not taking her hint at all. Elvis tried not to laugh as he watched his friend fail miserably at trying to impress the beauty queen. "Actually, Elvis and I were just about to dance. C'mon, Elvis." She stood up and grabbed him by the hand, pulling him onto the dance floor. Elvis looked back at Red and shrugged while Red looked annoyed that his so called "charm" hadn't worked on her. "They always go for the singer." he mumbled to himself bitterly. Slow smooth jazz music began to play from the band, and Lana wrapped her arms around Elvis's neck. Elvis wrapped his arms around her waist and chuckled. "I'm guessin' you weren't too interested in Red?" he concluded. Lana rolled her eyes again. "Not in the least," she said, "So don't get jealous." Elvis let out a smirk. He couldn't tell if she were joking or if she were serious, so he just brushed it off. "I ain't jealous," he said honestly, "You'd be nice with Red, I think. Once you get to know him." Lana gave Elvis a questioning look, scrunching her eyebrows together. "I don't want to be with him," she pouted, "You should know that." Elvis wasn't sure what she meant, but before he could ask, she set her head on his chest and they swayed along to the soft music. "Oh, Elvis," Lana began, "You're such a nice man. There aren't any others like you anymore." Elvis felt Lana hold him a bit tighter. "I try." Elvis mumbled. She looked up at him and continued, "And you're absolutely perfect, Elvis. You're everything a girl could ever dream of." Elvis pulled himself away from her and stopped dancing. "I think I should be gettin' home." Lana frowned, and took Elvis by the hand. "Oh, I didn't mean anything by it," Lana insisted, "Don't go. We were just having fun." Elvis debated staying. Lana was starting to get friendlier and friendlier every time he saw her, and he was too loyal to Dixie to cheat, he thought. "Please?" Lana pleaded. Elvis nodded and pulled Lana close once again and they began to dance along to the music. Lana snuggled against his shoulder and smiled. However, Elvis felt a bit guilty. If Dixie knew he was dancing and spending his time with some woman for the week since he's left, she would be irrate. Lana lifted her head from Elvis' shoulder and gave him a wide smile. "Let's go somewhere." she told him with enthusiasm. Elvis furrowed his eyebrows curiously to the beautiful woman. "Where?" And there was a bright light in her eyes that made it clear she knew just the place. "We'll take your car." Was all she said as she pulled herself away from him and grabbed onto his hand. "C'mon." she ordered, pulling him off of the dance floor and out of the restaurant.
Elvis hadn't the slightest clue as to where he was driving. Lana just kept telling him to where to make turns and how far up a road he should go. And whenever he'd ask her where they were going she would giggle and tell him that it was a surprise. But finally after a few moments, Elvis had pulled up onto a dirt hill behind the Hollywood sign. He smirked as he parked the car and set back in his seat, looking over the city. "Beautiful isn't it?" Lana smiled. Elvis nodded slowly; neither one of them taking their eyes off of the view. Lana turned to Elvis and with a big smile, she said, "I'll race you to the sign." Elvis looked at her and, slowly, a grin rose in his cheeks. Without saying a word he quickly unbuckled his seatbelt. "You cheater!" Lana shouted as she unbuckled herself and quickly take off her high-heels. By then, Elvis had already opened the car door and jumped out of the car. He ran down the small hill that led to the sign with Lana hot on his heels. But before he could reach the sign, Lana jumped on his back causing him to trip and they both tumbled down the hill in fits of laughter. Lana covered her face with her hands and laughed embarrassed as she laid there on the ground next to Elvis, who was laughing just as hard. Elvis picked himself up from the dirt and stood over Lana, holding both of his hands out.
"C'mon, darlin'." he told her. Lana pulled her hands away from her face and slid them into Elvis' hands. He pulled her off of the ground gently as if she was as light as a feather. "Thank you." Lana graced, wrapping her arm around his. "Sure thing." he replied. Elvis led her over to the second O of Hollywood sign and they just stood there, looking through it at the view of the city. "My father used to take me up here when I was a kid," Lana remembered, "We would just sit here and watch the stars together... I miss those days." Lana removed her arm from around Elvis's and sat on the O; letting her legs dangle down at the drop below. Elvis leaned his back against the letter and put his hands into his pockets. "I sure do miss being a kid," Lana admitted in a small mumble, "Seems like things were easier then." Elvis scoffed. "Tell me about it." he mused. Lana looked back at Elvis, turning around to him calmly; her back now facing the the drop and view of Hollywood. "Thanks for being here Elvis." she spoke genuinely. Lana grabbed him by the arm and pulled him off of the sign to stand directly in front of her. Holding his hands in hers, she told him, "There's a lot of people in this city - fakers, I mean. I'm glad I'm here with you. I don't feel so alone anymore." Slidding his hands out of hers, Elvis stood in front of her and set his hands on each side of her, holding himself up on the letter. "Well I'm glad I met you too," he replied, "I wouldn't know my way around if it wasn't for you." Lana smirked and shook her head shyly. "Oh, Elvis." she scoffed. "It's true," he said, "Thank you." Lana looked up at Elvis to find that he had already been staring at her. And there that feeling was. That feeling that Elvis had always had about her. The feeling of mesmerization by her presence. It made his heart thump and his stomach churn. "You know if I didn't have a girlfriend I'd probably -" He cut himself off, not sure if he should really say what was going through his mind. Lana leaned in close to Elvis, batting those big brown eyes. "Do what?" she whispered innocently. Neither of them spoke, but instead their lips gently touched to express how they both felt. The kiss was nothing more than an innocent kiss, but soon turned more deeper than that.
For a moment Elvis had lost sight of what mattered, but he had too good of a heart to just let this happen. The image of Dixie finding out about this ran through his mind. He could envision her crying and yelling at him. Her heart would be broken and Elvis would feel cheap. Elvis pulled his lips from Lana's. "This isn't right." he told her. Lana shook her head, misled. "Why?" she asked. "You know why." Lana looked down, realizing what he had meant. "Your girlfriend." she grumbled. The saddened look on Lana's face caused Elvis to feel bad. He didn't want to lead her on, in fact, he just wanted to be friends. But Lana was so beautiful and the moment threw him off. Elvis took Lana by the hand, and with his free hand he placed his fingers under her chin, lightly making her look back up at him. "Let's get you home, darlin'." he whispered. Lana nodded - still saddened - sliding off of the sign. Elvis pulled off his blazer and wrapped it around Lana's shoulders. It made Lana smile to know that Elvis still cared for her. "You're so sweet." Lana giggled. Elvis took her by the hand and, taking their time, they walked back up to his car.
