CHAPTER ONE:
VOWING TO PROTECT
IT WAS DARK out on one of the many planets in the galaxy, the sky looking just as dark as the galaxy was as the stars in the darkness shined down on the many civilians in the planets. Chatters could be heard all around from the citizens living on the planet, added laughter being heard to show that the adults were awake while their children were asleep. The sound of cups slamming down on tables could be heard as the many different creatures called out to get more drinks, clearly wanting to get drunk for the night and not focus on the many worrying things that coursed through their minds everyday, knowing they'll have pounding headaches once sober the next day and going back to being responsible.
In a bar on the planet, random music echoed throughout the place, the many different type of sounds going over one another's as the doors opened and closed, civilians walking in and out without thinking, some stumbling out after having too much to drink, others having been kicked out after starting a fight with a random person, being too drunk on alcohol to actually notice who had started the fist fight in the first place.
Either way, both would get kicked out by the staff without hesitation, the owner not wanting their bar ruined. No one seemed to notice a large ship flying above and near the edge of the large city that had been made on the planet full of aliens and many other creatures.
No one seemed to notice the bright light shining down on a certain area as a small object was being carried up and towards the the large ship, the beam light soon dying down as the ship flew high up until it wasn't seen anymore. Inside the ship, a crowd of men, all different types of aliens and other creatures could be seen as their deep voices spoke to one another, wondering what they had just picked up.
A circle had been formed around as they tried to get a look at what they had just beamed up and into their ship. However, when the sound of a baby's cries filled their eardrums, their eyes glanced at one another in confusion, wondering why they were exactly hearing a baby crying and not some adult or teenager speaking. Usually, they had picked up and got the people to join them who were strong and older than a baby.
The group bounty hunter, the group of Ravagers were all confused as they caught a glimpse of a baby laying on the floor of their ship. They watched as their leader slowly walked towards the baby, who seemed to wearing nothing but a diaper as it cried. The leader, Yondu, furrowed his brows, looking just as confused and wonderous as his Ravagers.
His eyes examined the baby, it's skin looking to be pale and cold as it's fingertips looked to be turning almost into a blue-ish-purple-like color. It made one of the younger Ravagers heart break a bit as his green eyes stared past all the shoulders and at the baby.
All their eyes watched as Yondu crouched down in front of the baby, it's eyes opening and revealing it's teary e/c eyes as the baby's cries turned into whimpers while the infant stared up at the blue man in front of it.
"It's a baby." The first mate of the Ravagers, Kraglin, points out.
Another Ravager furrows his brows. "What's it doing here?"
"I don't know." Yondu mumbles.
More questions were passed around as Yondu was staring at the baby before he was slowly reaching forward and grabbing the baby by under the armpits. They watched as he stood back up from his crouched position, keeping a slight distance between him and the baby.
Now getting a better look at the infant, they noticed that it seemed to just be a bit bigger than a newborn baby, which made them only guess it was almost a year old, just a few months old. The infant's small arms and legs moved around in the air as it's e/c eyes glanced around at crowd of men around it, it's small h/c locks just brushing around it's head.
"It looks like a girl." A Ravager comments.
"Well, let's send her back down. We don't need a baby!" Another Ravager calls out, earning agreements from most men in the crowd.
"Besides, what can she do when she's older?" Another adds. "Send her back down, leave someone else to deal with her."
Many voices echoed throughout the crowd as they all agreed, telling their leader to just send the baby girl back down and back into the cold where she would most likely die from, seeing as she had nothing on her. No blanket, no clothing, not even a box or anything to keep her in while sleeping.
Instead, the baby had been left on the concrete ground in the planet she was clearly born in, no parents around, no one having seemed to notice that an abandoned baby laid on the ground, slowly losing her life with every second that passed.
"Hey, everyone shut up!" Yondu exclaims, the voices all dying down. "We can't just leave a baby out on the streets and let it die. So, no... I'm not gonna send her back down. But I'm not gonna be able to take care of her with all you bozos around. Is anyone volunteering to look after this kid or will we have to take her somewhere else?"
This time, no one said a thing. No one wanted to take care of a baby. No one wanted to have the responsibility of a parent and deal with a baby's cries and changing it's diaper every single day and not sleeping while they tried to stop the baby from crying, but only to fail.
Some held surprised expressions, surprised that their leader, who was one to usually have a cold heart, was actually caring for the infant and at least get her somewhere safe where she wouldn't die at such a young age without even living her life and making memories. The only time they had sometimes seen him soft was with the human boy they had gotten from planet earth, but that wasn't often.
"I will." A voice calls out.
Everyone's eyes snap over to the sound of the familiar voice as a hand had raised up near the back of the crowd. A gap had been created as their eyes stopped on the only human in the group of Ravagers. A young adult Peter Quill's eyes met his leader's, a man who had grown to be like a father figure to him, but he'd never say it out loud.
They let the young adult walk by them until he was in front of the blue man and Yondu slowly handed the girl off to him, watching as Quill wrapped his jacket around the cold baby as his eyes examined her. She looked human, but little did they all know, just how powerful she'd be as she'd grow up.
Yondu places a hand on the younger man's shoulder. "Are you sure about this, son? This is a lot of responsibility."
Quill nods, looking down at the baby in his arms. "I know, but I got this. Promise."
The creature only silently nodded in reply as everyone's eyes watched as Quill turned around, his green eyes examining the baby for any cuts or bruises that he could tend to as he watched her snuggle into him, her eyes staring up at him with a fondness he hadn't seen when she looked at the other Ravagers.
As he walked to his room on the ship, hoping to get a blanket wrapped around her and feed her something so she could sleep peacefully, he thought that she didn't seem to have a name or anything on her that claimed who she was. So, as he got into his room, closing the door behind him, he thought of beautiful girl names he knew of and the first one to come to his mind was his mother's middle name.
"Y/n." Quill murmurs in thought, brows furrowed deeply.
Once getting a blanket wrapped around her, softly rubbing his hand up and down her small body to radiate the warmth on her, he soon placed her down onto his bed and looked around for something to eat. Luckily, he had found something in one of the cupboards and brought her back into his arms.
While he got the food ready with his other hand, he felt her small hands go up until they grabbed his finger, making him stop. A toothless smile laid on her chubby face as she stared up at him and for the first time in a long time, it made him smile as he stared down at her.
It was then that he knew the name was perfect for her.
And as he held her in his arms, he silently vowed to protect her with his life.
