(Yes, as in the Modern English song. Because it's legitimately one of the best love songs ever written. Basically, this is a day in the life of loving a try-hard as a try-hard. Lots of teachers shipping you two. It gets a little steamy for a sec but doesn't go anywhere. I managed to reference PoA and TASM and I think I managed to not swear in this one, so there's that. Enjoy!)
Y/n clutched her books against her chest as she navigated the crowded, sprawling corridors of Hogwarts school, anxiously switching her gaze from her watch to her schedule. She was double-booked for extracurriculars tonight and it had her extremely worried, but for now she was doing well on time. Having just finished her last class, Ancient Runes, she had offered to help Professor Sprout in the greenhouses before dinner. After that, Quidditch practice (which on Marlene's insistence were now three times a week instead of two) and the promise of a cozy evening study date with Remus. As much as she was fascinated by Arithmancy, as she was with all forms of magic, she could never manage to remember the meanings of all the numbers, and then to her horror the combination of the numbers could change their effects entirely. But Remus had a knack for numbers, and an amazing memory, and was more than willing to help his girlfriend through her N.E.W.T.S. in exchange for some time by the common room fire, or holding her to his chest in his four-poster with the curtains drawn if he wasn't feeling very social, which was more often the case. Besides, it ensured that they actually saw each other during exam season, as they both had a tendency to hyperfocus and overwork themselves.
Her sneakers scuffed against the stone floors as she dodged her fellow students and ducked into Greenhouse Five. Dropping her books and satchel by the door, she carefully tucked her color-coded schedule into her Runes textbook and smiled at the little hearts she'd drawn on all the free periods that were to be spent with her boyfriend. Professor Sprout popped her head out of her cluttered little office and broke into a dimpled smile.
"Ready to get stuck in, then?" she asked, rolling up the sleeves of her robes.
"No time like the present," y/n responded, and grabbed a stack of pots to fill for the first years. Sprout enchanted a couple of push brooms to begin sweeping under the potting benches, and y/n laughed, reminded of Fantasia.
"You haven't got into the Alihotsy, have you?" her professor teased.
"Must be it," y/n giggled, unable to explain the joke.
Laying out the bubotubers that were ready to be squeezed, cutting back Shrivelfigs to be overwintered, preparing logs for leaping toadstool spores, and carefully propagating mimbulus mimbletonia took most of the hour. Sprout had left to check on the outdoor herb gardens, so y/n continued alone until it was nearly time to head to the Great Hall. As she was harvesting the last of the moly, a pair of familiar arms wrapped around her waist and a spicy, papery scent filled her lungs. "You know," said Remus, running a curious finger up the flower's black stem, "Odysseus used moly to resist Circe's dark magic." He pulled a small bloom from her basket and slipped it into her hair behind her ear, "It's supposed to protect you from curses and dark creatures. Some say even touching the stem will do." Remus let his fingers fall to the side of her neck, exploring the soft skin behind her ear. "Maybe you should keep it with you tonight." Right. The full moon.
"Are you sure you're up for studying this evening? We likely won't have much time. The days are getting shorter again."
"We'll have all the time in the world. Besides, you have a test for it tomorrow morning. If not now, when?"
"You're right, I suppose."
"As usual," he smirked. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah, just let me leave these where Sprout can find them."
