Chapter Two: The Cruel Man

Kreacher wandered through the endless halls of the Black Estate, mopping the pristine and sparkling black marble floors while humming an unfamiliar melody. He waited, listening for the familiar sounds of his young Mistress's heartbroken cries.

It had become routine for the silence of the night to be broken by Morana Black crying for her mother and father. Despite realizing they were dead, Morana didn't understand that they couldn't come home. She still expected to see her mother's smile in the morning and to hear her father singing to her at night.

"Oh, he does have a wonderful voice, doesn't he?" Walburga said to her granddaughter, pride glittering in her dark eyes. Beside her, Regulus flushed and mumbled a complaint under his breath, especially when Lucius and the Lestrange Twins started teasing him.

With the assistance of the other house elves, Kreacher worked around the clock to take care of their Little Mistress. Since they arrived two months ago, Morana had been displaying uncontrollable bursts of accidental magic - powerful magic that shattered windows, destroyed rooms, and shook the entire property.

"Just how powerful are you?" James Potter questioned from where he sat between Harry and Sirius, speaking for the first time since arriving.

James frowned; it was difficult to believe anyone possessed such power because it was unnatural. Even Dumbledore couldn't perform magic like that, and he was the most powerful wizard of the century alongside Voldemort.

"Powerful enough," Morana responded vaguely, knowing the book would reveal how her magical strength developed over the years. She would have no secrets left once this was over, and she dared not think about it now.

'Incredible,' Riddle thought, imagining all the things they could do together. With such power, they'd be unstoppable, though he was secretly relieved he hadn't made an enemy out of Morana.

He didn't need a demonstration of her power to see she was one of the most dangerous people in the room - there was a certain type of cold, unforgiving darkness in her eyes that made his spine tingle with excitement.

The house elves suspected the death of her parents had triggered her accidental magic to reveal itself sooner than average children. But it concerned the house elves how potent Morana's magic was; they didn't think it was natural for someone so young to have such strength in their magical cores.

However, they weren't overly alarmed about it and hoped Morana and her magic would settle soon. She probably just needed some time to adjust to her reality.

Kreacher had returned to the cottage in Lakewood Forest a week after the murder of Irene and Regulus Black; he wanted to ensure his previous Master and Mistress received a proper burial in the Black Family Graveyard.

"I love Kreacher," Morana and Regulus declared in sync, blushing at the amused smiles that sprang onto the faces of their family. Sirius watched his family with a hint of jealousy in his heart, wondering why they never behaved like that with him.

What he discovered was truly horrific.

"Oh, fuck me," Morana mumbled, making herself comfortable in Tom's arms. No one had ever told her what Kreacher discovered at the cottage since no one wanted to burden her with the gory details. But she wanted to know how much her parents suffered in their final moments.
