I've done a little more research and from what I've seen, I don't think breeds are necessary. In fact, I'm not really sure if a lot of them are even real, considering the oldest ones I can find are from a roleplay site. I'm not sure if the person I'd been using for info was misinformed or a faker, but considering some of their information matches up with other sites, I'm going to guess they were probably just confused.
All I know 100% for sure is that I'm a lycan, and that I need to work hard if I want to finally shift. It probably won't happen until at least March, however, maybe even later. I read that since shifting has a great deal to do with hormones, it usually doesn't happen until after puberty when all your other hormones start to stabilize. Since I'm trans and taking testosterone, I'll have to wait until I've been on HRT for about a year for my hormones to stabilize again. I'm still going to do my best to practice & get ready for physical shifting, but progress is probably going to be a little slow since technically being on T is making me go through puberty again lmao
Right now my biggest challenge is finding accurate information about shifting. I stumbled upon EmberPackII which has some info that sounds like it could be legit, and have been directed to look at Similar Worlds (or whatever it's called, I'm not sure since I haven't checked it out yet) but most shifting and lycan/werewolf sites seem to be either vandalized, inactive, or taken down. I've started looking for historical accounts of lycanthropy too, from like the 18th-19th century to see if I can find older and more traditional information will help, but I have to take a lot of it with a grain of salt since people back then had some really... weird beliefs. I'm definitely not going to put all my trust in dead people who likely believed in spontaneous generation & had no idea what the hell a neutron was.
If anyone has something they consider a reliable source of information on werewolves/lycanthropy in general or physical shifting, please please please share it with me! Anything helps, considering even unreliable sources can sometimes have little bits of truth hidden in them if you know where to look.
Also, sorry if you notice my updates getting less frequent, I'm starting college in a few days and I've been super busy worrying about that! I can't update like I used to back when I first joined the mythical community, because unlike my 13 year old self, I have to worry about stuff like work & keeping my scholarships. I'm screwed if I lose them, I don't have much money saved for college considering I'm on a full ride for 4 years so long as I keep doing well. Geez, I'm old. It feels like a week ago I was still in 7th grade trying to figure out my mythical type, and now I'm trying to physically shift while going to college.
(Okay, they get it River, you're old and feel weird about it)
Aaaaanyway, I'll try my best to keep you all updated throughout the school year!
