Chapter 5

Lamais's pov

"Hello my name is Cushane and yours is?" The man stated and ask upon his return from his car with a bag.

"I'm Lamais,," I said feeling nervous and self conscious.

"It's nice to meet you," he said holding out his right hand.

"Likewise," I countered and held out my right hand for him to shake.

He took my hand and a bolt of electricity shot through me from his hand, I looked away quickly hoping that he hadn't felt it because it must be my nervousness of being around his gender alone in my home.

"I hope you drink beef soup because that's what I'm having for dinner," I said while pulling my hand from his grasp.

"I do," he said and I walk ahead of him into the living room.

"You can have a seat here, I'm going to go check on the pot," I told him spreading my hand at the couch.

"Ok but here, it would be nice if you put these to chill," he said handing me the bag.

I took it and look inside of it seeing six packs of Malta and red stripe beer. "Oh ok," I said before walking off to the kitchen.

After putting them in the refrigerator, I turn off the stove and set another place at the dining table. "Can you sit here Cushane?" I ask and he got up immediately.

"Sure, the soup smells good," he said and I snorted a chuckle on my way back into the kitchen.

I dish out two lovely bowls and took them to the table. "Thank you," he said when I place his in front of him.

"You're welcome, do you need to wash your hands?" I said then ask.

"Oh yes," he said and got up.

I direct him across to the bathroom and waited on him to get back before sitting down. "Grace," I stated looking over at hi and he smiled.

"Go ahead," he said softly.

I wasn't afraid to say my grace in front of anyone, I'm a rather outspoken person and I was use to speaking before an audience. I bow my head and close my eyes.

"Heavenly father, I thank you for this meal. Thank you for providing it and let it be nourishment to whom are partaking of it, amen"

"Amen," Cushane said and we began to eat in a comforting silence.

The gate buzzed and I glance up with a frown on my face, I was not expecting anyone and I wonder who was my next unexpected guest as I said "excuse me" and went to look who it was on my tablet on the kitchen counter. I hissed under my breath, what did Shanty want now I thought in annoyance as I press the button opening the gate and walked to the verandah.

She came in and looked with interest at cushane's car. "Good evening ma'am," she greets me.

"Good evening my dear. What's up?" I greet and ask her.

I opted to read her as she tried to look inside, I place myself directly in front of her- inquisitiveness was the only thing I read and felt even more annoyed to have to leave my dinner. "Majorie tell mi sey yuh have visitor, suh mi hurry up an' come. Yuh need mi ma'am?" She explains and ask in a whisper.

Why didn't these people see other people business and leave it alone I thought vexedly. "No I don't. If I had needed you I would have called you or sent for you," I told her quite but firmly.
