Chapter Three

The next day, I woke up with a pounding in my head. I groaned and looked around. I was alone in a huge room. Then I remembered, we were held by Amber. I took the sheets off from me and walked into the bathroom. I washed my face and went downstairs.

They were down there alright. Everyone was present and gathered around the dining table. They seem to be talking about something. I descended the stairs and did a stretch.

"Thanks for waking me up." I muttered as I approach them. They seemed to be surprised I am awake. "What's for breakfast?" I asked them "And what time is it?". Amber rose from her seat and went outside. I sat beside Kimberly.

"What's with Amber?" I asked Liam and Kimberly. I grabbed an apple and bit it nice and good. Juicy.

" It's just 7 am. Amber's out ordering McDonald's right now. We just woke up ourselves." Liam stretched and yawned. "So anyways, have you thought on another move for your next contest?"

"Don't get it started, Liam." Kimberly rolled her eyes. "Janelle has much more higher priorities to take care of, like for instance, hiring a bodyguard for school? Or learning martial arts at the least."

"What are you saying?" I said in disbelief. "Why would I hire a bodyguard? And why would I want to learn martial arts?"

"To be ready, of course! We can't just let you roam around school when we know that someone's on your tail." Liam explained. Is that all it?

"Yeah!" Kimmy agreed. "You need someone to be alert and caring to watch over you at school! Some one who can be with you even in classes!"

"Someone buff and tough perhaps?"

"No! Someone unsuspecting might be a good choice."

"Or...." And there they are, lost in a conversation about what my bodyguard needs to be. I don't even want a bodyguard anyways. I looked outside. Throughout the glass screen doors, I can easily see Amber speaking on the phone. She might as well order the whole McDonald's with the time she spent over the phone. Then something clicked.

"Hey guys, I got a good idea on who I want to be my bodyguard." I said to my friends, smiling. They looked confused and asked "Who?"

I pointed my head outside and they both looked at Amber. Then they both looked sad.

"Janelle, you see...." Kimberly started. Liam coughed and Kimberly nodded.

"What? It's perfect." I explained. "See, She's strict, She can change her schedule to match mine, she's trained to defend herself and she's unsuspecting and nice! Isn't she perfect for it?"

"Who's perfect for it?" I turned around slowly and I saw Amber smugly placing the phone on the counter.

"Uhm, see here Amber..." Liam was nervous. Why? "Janelle thought you can be a perfect bodyguard for her. Since the incident with Azelma, we thought it'd be unsafe for Janelle to walk around like that. And she thinks she wants you to be her bodyguard."

Amber's face softened. "Will you do it?" I asked eagerly. Then an awkward silence passed. Liam coughed again.

"Janelle, I know you prefer me to do it than some stuck up male bodyguard in a suit but I can't. And I have some perfectly good reasons to support it. Did you perhaps got amnesia overnight? Last night I was sure you were good with it.

That....was unexpected. "Then what?"

Amber looked at Kimberly and Liam. They looked at me sympathetically.

Amber took a deep breath and looked me in the eye. "I'm leaving America......and I don't know when I'll be back."

I don't know how much time had passed but when I came into my senses I was lying on the couch with no one in sight. I stood up and looked around. I'm sure there's a clock here somewhere.
