26 || THE SEARCH FOR DUSTIN

"There's no electricity...why the fuck are you expecting something to happen?"

THE FRIENDS WASTED NO time in running down the stairs as their injured friend continued to yell.

Turning the corner, they saw Steve standing in the middle of the kitchen, slowly spinning around in circles and yelling 'Dustin!' repeatedly.

"What the fuck is happening?" Riley whispered at his friends, his eyes not tearing away from Steve who had yet to stop yelling.

"Maybe he really does have rabies." Robin shrugged making Riley nod his head. "Wouldn't surprise me, he looks like a fucking lunatic."

"What are you doing?" Nancy asked Steve who now seemed to realise they were there as he shone the flashlight in their eyes.

"Put that shit down." Riley instructed Steve as he squinted his eyes at the same time Steve walked towards them.

"He's here. Henderson. That little shit, he's here. He's like...He's in the walls or something. Just listen." Steve rambled to the group which made concern immediately strike their features.

The Harrington boy stood silently for a second before opening his mouth. "Dustin!"

Riley quickly turned to Eddie, highly confused by the situation before them. "I didn't hear anything..."

"Me neither..." Eddie trailed off as Steve now went back to yelling for the boy who apparently was there.

The only thing that Riley could hear was Steve's yells for the boy but apparently, Steve wasn't the only one who could hear him as Nancy and Robin and even Eddie joined the boy.

"What the fuck is going on? I don't hear shit!" Riley exclaimed making Nancy turn back to him slowly. "Just listen, carefully."

The Blood stood there, now focusing his attention on finding the voice. A few seconds later, he found what he was looking for.

"What do Eleven and Vecna have in common?"

Riley's eyes widened as he now began to join the search for the missing boy. "Dustin...come out, come out wherever you are." The boy taunted as he searched around the kitchen.

"If you come out we can listen to Queen together..." Riley told the boy who he had yet to find as he now began looking under the table.

"And I won't put on I'm In Love With My Car because, for some reason, you hate it. Which I see as a personal attack on me because who doesn't like that song? I mean, Roger Taylor wrote it and, you know, it's Roger fucking Taylor-" Riley's ramble about the song got quickly cut off by Nancy slightly kicking the boy making him immediately stop.

"Focus." Nancy instructed the boy who put his hand up to his head and saluted the girl before nodding. "Yes ma'am."

"Still see it as a personal attack..." Riley murmured as he made his way to the cabinets before instantly stopping. "Who am I kidding? You're not fitting in there, sorry Dustin."

"Alright, either this kid can't hear us or he's being a total douchebag." Steve told his friends who turned to him at the sound of his voice.

"He's always a fucking douchebag." Riley reminded his friends as Nancy now took a turn to speak. "Will found a way."

Everyone's attention snapped to the smaller woman who looked very confident although she had hardly said anything.

"What?" Steve questioned as she now turned to look at him. "Will. He found a way to speak to Joyce through the lights."

Nancy rushed over to a lamp which sat on a small table in the next room over, she attempted to turn it on but unsurprisingly, it didn't work.

"The switch. Try the switch." Steve told the girl making Riley furrow his brows as she now attempted to turn the switch on.

"There's no electricity...why the fuck are you expecting something to happen?" Riley slightly chuckled as he scratched the back of his head as he watched the slightly frantic woman.

"It's not working." Nancy stated as she tried once more. "No fucking shit it's not working, there's no electricity. And here I thought you were as smart as Sherlock." Riley exclaimed before turning to Steve as he shone his flashlight onto the light above them, now noticing light forming.

"Guys?" Steve said, grabbing the other three's attention. "You seeing this?" Steve now questioned as he moved slowly towards the glittering light.

Dustin's voice was now slightly heard, although it was very muffled and they couldn't make out what he was saying, it was definitely Dustin.

Nancy and Steve moved towards the light, watching as it glittered. Eddie, Robin and Riley now took a few steps forwards, joining their friends at the glowing light.

Nancy reached her hand out into the light, making it glow even brighter but once she removed her hand, it went back to its regular glowing self.

"Woah." Riley breathed out as he looked at Eddie with a small smile which the Munson boy happily gave one back to.

Grabbing a hold of Eddie's hand, Riley now took a turn to reach out his hand into the light, watching how it glowed even brighter and how he felt his hand now begin to tickle slightly.

"...are these like the Mothergate..."

Dustin's voice was heard once again, this time they were able to make out some of what he was saying but everyone was much more fixated on the light above them to comment on it.

Everyone else now took a turn in placing their hand in the light and twirling it around. Both Eddie and Riley held grins on their faces as they did, their other hands still not letting go of one another's.

"It...tickles." Eddie spoke quietly as he continued twirling his hand around. "It kinda feels good." Robin added, noticeably enjoying letting her hand turn freely in the light.

"Does anyone know Morse code?" Nancy asked her friends as she quickly removed her hand from the light.

"No." Both Robin and Steve responded at the same time, whereas Riley now looked at Eddie.
"You know SOS, don't you?" He questioned as Eddie now looked at him.

"Yeah. Wait, does SOS count? Is that...is that good?" Eddie nodded his head as he now looked at Nancy as he questioned it.

"Yeah...yeah, I think that's good." Riley told his boyfriend with a small grin.
