ONIKAKUSHI

Cicadas cried out, their sounds echoing from the trees and bouncing to random spots. The warm summer air began to rise, and so did the tired teenagers of the nearby Highschool. The blades of grass were stroked with a warm, nice shade of orange as the sun began to rise more and more into the now amber sky.

Clueless to the beautiful environment surrounding him, a teenage boy by the name of Jake Sterling opened his eyes. A light glow emitted from the sky and into his room. He then groaned.

"Another school day.." He sighed in annoyance. Today was Friday. Surely he could get through it so he could lay on his sweet, sweet bed for the 2 days he'd be free of school tugging at his legs.

He then yawned heavily, and began to get ready.

-

Slipping his clothes on, brushing his hair, etc. As soon as he ate his breakfast, he could brush his teeth, wash his hands- get his stuff and then roll out into the uncomfortable aura of a Friday morning.

He ate the fluffy waffle bit by bit, the syrup slipping down his jaw as he messily ate like he had never in his life before. It was warm, sweet. A perfect waffle for a school day.

He then grabbed the cup of milk he had for his normal breakfast. And drank the cold liquid as he tuned into the faint TV news in the background. As the weather forecast passed, something else began to be spoken.

"Scientists say they have discovered a new disease by the name of Hinamizawa Syndrome- it may be considered to be the scariest disease yet, some scientists say. Symptoms include heavy hallucinations, paranoia, violent behavior-"

Jake froze as it kept talking. A little creeped out by the news.

"Scientists heavily believe that staying away from crowds may help out with the spread of this disease, for the citizens of Japan and Korea that want to know how to stay uninfected."

Jake sighed in a bit of relief. Truthfully, he felt bad for those who were in those countries, but at least it hadn't come to America. Yet, anyway.

As he finished up his breakfast, he then went up to his room to brush his teeth and wash his hands. When he finished with that, he grabbed the stuff he needed and headed out for school.

-

Bustling crowds talked amongst themselves, some being random people minding their own business and students walking to school. Jake was amongst the students, and smiling softly as he thought about talking to his friends once he had arrived.

Maybe they could play some Genshin when he got back home with them. To get his mind off of the recent news and all.

"Jake!" A faint, but familiar voice had called out his name. Looking behind him, he saw the source of the voice.

Henry, a close companion of his. Short fluffy dark green hair- dark eyes that were hard to tell the color of, soft pale skin and always wearing a happy look for no reason. It wasn't hard for anyone in the school to know who he was.

Henry ran up to him and grinned. "Oh, Henry! What are you doing here? Aren't you usually earlier than me? You always walk with Liam, and he gets up pretty early so-" Jake trailed off as Henry spoke in his childish voice.

"Oh yeah, I decided I wanted to walk with you, Jakey. After all, you still need to tell me about that little time you had with Daisy~" He had a teasing look, and Jakes face flushed bright red. Daisy. The girl he had adored since Middle School.

Pale skin, long white silky hair, light blue beautiful eyes. Her cute way of dressing. Everything about her was just so- urgh.. adorable!

"Oh shut up, you know I only stayed over because we're partners for the dumb science project.." Jake defended himself, as Henry giggled teasingly. "I know~ but I bet your simp self will be very happy the next time you see her, huh, Jake?" He(Henry) teased again.

Jake grumbled in irritation and embarrassment. Henry was always like this. Such a cute, childlike face didn't belong to such an agent of chaos. He chortled longingly as Jake hung his arms low.

"Oh, yeah! Did you hear about that disease?" Henry asked, looking curious but concerned as well. "O-Oh, yeah. I did. Those poor people.." Jake muttered empathetically as he thought about the citizens in Japan and Korea.

"Yeah.. well, it's good it's not here, right? We should be fine." Henry reassured, though Jake wasn't sure if he was trying to comfort himself or him.

Jake nodded, "I- I just- I just think-" "Oh, hey! Jake! Henry!" A familiar deep, masculine voice had called out their names. Jake had already known who it was, for he was already looking in the direction of said voice.

Dark brown, short hair. Ruby red eyes. Brown freckles, and an odd smug look on his face most of the time. It was Liam, another companion of his.

"Hey man, whats up?" Jake greeted as Liam approached them, and began to walk with them along the path to the school they attended.

Liam shrugged, "Eh, nothing much.. did you two hear about the-" "Yeah, yeah, we did. It should be fine though, right?" Henry cut him off, chuckling in the middle of his words. Seriously. Was he trying to reassure himself, or them?

"Well, I suppose so. Not like it's gonna creep its way all the way out here." Liam answered, a bit taken aback by Henry's forced reassurance. "Y-Yeah.." Jake replied, still a bit unsettled. Henry took notice of this, and placed a hand on his shoulder. They'd be approaching the school soon enough.

"Hey man, don't worry. I'm sure it'll all be fine." He tried to soothe the seemingly nervous, peach haired boy beside him. "R-Right.." Jake said back.

The thoughts of the illness creeping into this little town he only adored because of his friends made him nervous. He didn't want his not so lonely life that had been present for a good few years to vanish because of some disease.

He shook his head, while Henry and Liam bickered. There was no time to think about all of that. Before he knew it, the school was right in front of him, and he could start his boring school day.

What he needed to worry about was assignments. Not some disease.. right?
