"Yuri," she calls your name for the first time since introducing yourself properly. "What are you doing here?"

Ticking your head to one side, you watch with silent glee as she scurries towards you. "Hmm? I'm here to pick you up for our date, darling. What else would I be doing in front of your apartment?"

"Yes, but..." Nervous eyes glance around at everything but you.

"But we were supposed to meet downtown? I didn't want to waste the hour it would take you to get there alone when I could be by your side," you explain with a smile.

"Oh..." She fidgets with her dress - just as she always does when you flatter her. Holding out your arm she hesitantly links into your elbow. "But... how did you know where I live?" she queries after several steps.

"Hmm? Oh, I just asked around," you lie easily. You've known her address since the day you fell in love with her. The first task you commenced upon entering headquarters was compiling every last record on her family.

Blinking up in surprise from under long lashes, she continues down the sidewalk with you but asks no more. So, despite knowing all she could tell you, you make light conversation simply to entertain her - asking questions about her family, the bakery, where she grew up, and the like.

Timid at first, she soon loses herself in reverie, unwittingly flaunting each of her charms. Her soft smile rounds out her chubby cheeks. Her strong hands cling to your arm with enthusiasm. Her sparkling eyes flit to-and-fro at every sentence.

"My mother passed away shortly after I was born, but because the government provides day-care all the way through kindergarten, I didn't have to go to an orphanage. As you know, my father runs a bakery, so I applied for vocational training in year nine and worked at a large factory for two years. They always train more people than they can hire at those factories though, so I ended up back at the family shop."

By the time you reach the the city centre, you've coaxed her into detailing her hopes and dreams. A little home out in the country, a yard large enough to grow her own vegetables, a garden full of flowers, a handful of children chasing one another, and someone to welcome home with fresh baked goods.

Before she can ask you the same, you redirect the conversation. "We're almost at the theatre. I picked up tickets to the movies today. I'm not sure what it's about, but it was the only one with spots left this afternoon. Shall we go?"

In truth, you know exactly what will be shown, and you choose this theatre precisely because they only have one screen, one movie, one option.

She agrees, and soon enough the two of you are picking up treats at a nearby café. Snacks in hand, you let her choose the seats. It's a full house despite the movie having been out for a while now. The popularity of the film belies its content.

Mere minutes into the first scene, you feel her tense up beside you. Offering her some of your mini doughnuts, you play dumb. She obliges and is distracted long enough to regain her composure.

Yet not long after, she's peering out from between her fingers. You lean in and with a gentle tone tell her, "If you're scared, you can hold my hand." In her wary nature, her gaze flits from your palm to your smile and back before she quickly wraps both her hands around yours.

As the movie progresses, you watch her gaze around at the way several other couples cling to one another. One hand gradually - unconsciously - edges up your wrist. Then your forearm. Then your elbow. Until she's trapped your biceps against her chest and has a cheek on your shoulder.

By the time the tension in the plot is about to climax, she's buried herself in the crook of your neck. Hot and silent, tears dribble down her pretty face to stain your dress shirt.
