Her smile is everything to you...

It's still there - most of the time - but the light behind her eyes is fading.

You had hoped that mending the relationship would bring back the light-hearted cottontail girl you fell in love with all those months ago. The frowns and scowls certainly disappeared. The sour looks and caustic tones evaporated overnight. The smiles, though, haven't been the same.

She's withering.

You've been working hard to make her feel needed since you brought her here, and she's responded well since the two of you made up last month.

She keeps herself busy all day mending your old clothes, cooking breakfast, packing you a lunch, and preparing dinner. Though you try to help with the house chores in the evening, she's almost always finished long before you come home.

Worrying that she might be bored, you ordered her magazine subscriptions, take her to the library every week to pick out new books, and stocked the pantry with every baking supply possible. You even bought her a sewing machine and turned the spare room into a nook for her to do whatever she likes.

Yet, in the moments of stillness, you can see that she's weary - and it's not from being busy. Pouring all the affection you can into her only recharges her so much. She's always thrilled when you finally walk through the door and has grown quite obviously dependant on you. Though you love it, you can't be with her all day and you've seen the changes it's causing.

It's especially noticeable in the way she's become so physically demanding. A proxy for time not spent together, she compensates her loneliness with sex. Though you've made love to her every single day since that night - many days more than once - it never seems to be enough to ease the emptiness spreading in her eyes.

You know that you can't keep her locked up here forever. You know she wouldn't forgive you for eliminating her father. What you don't know is whether there's another solution that would keep her safe, but you're determined to find something.

On a lovely Sunday, you find yourself giggling away in the corner of a cute café with your darling little creature. She's visibly better when out and about. Everything is wonderful until you spot your almost least favourite person in the world out the window from your table.

He makes eye contact and pauses, arms full of bagged groceries, and raises his brows when you pretend not to have seen him. That was your first mistake.

He must have found your lack of outburst uncharacteristic, for usually you foam at the mouth when you run into your stupid, no good, rotten, undeserving brother-in-law.

Come to think of it you haven't visited them in a while, being as preoccupied as you have been with other issues. Another suspicious mistake.

The last mistake is your attempt to make a go-jump-off-a-bridge face when he walks through the door to greet you. You merely enticed him by proving you have something to hide.

"So, this is why you stopped dropping by unexpectedly, is it, Yuri?"

"LOTTY! GRRR GO AWAY!"

"Is that any way to introduce your brother-in-law to your girlfriend?"

"Fiancée!" she chirps next to you in the cheerful voice that normally makes your heart race for other reasons.

"Bunny!"

"What?" she looks at you, pretty eyes full of innocence, squeezing your arm with the hand wearing the dainty ring you picked out together the morning after your first night. You never told her you were keeping her a secret. It's not her fault.
