Breach and Clear

"You sure this is the right place?" Koi-Nee asked, staring at the derelict, abandoned warehouse from behind their rock a few hundred meters away. "Looks kinda hazardous to make an outpost out of."

"Exactly." Lea-Fee examined a power cell before placing it in her blaster and holstering it. "Run-down, unnoticeable, detrimental—nobody would expect Minis to set up a base here."

"So why are we here? Why not just send in a squad of regulars?"

"Too risky. Intel says the layout's confusing and cramped. Sending too many regulars means they might accidentally kill each other, and sending too few means they won't be able to pull it off. This is a special op."

"But on a planet like Botted?" Knee-Dyl gestured around her at the barren, dry landscape with a blank rocket before loading it into her jumper. "You'd think the inhabitants would notice, right?"

Fee paused for a second to consider Dyl's words before turning to Day-Vidd with a questioning look. Vidd just shrugged and checked the ammo in his sawed-off shotgun. "...Well, that's the intel Match and Cyl got us," she answered uneasily. "And you know how good those two are at getting information."

"I guess." Nee fixed the straps on a small metal black box and slung it over his back. "So it's just a simple breach and clear, right?"

Fee shook her head. "Cyl says they've got some high-ranking officers captured in there. Our primary objective is to ensure their safety. Once they're clear, then we clean house."

"Did she say who?" Dyl asked while tying her shoes.

"No. Said the situation got a bit too hot before she could confirm their identities."

Nee chuckled a bit too much while catching a rocket Dyl tossed him and loading it into his launcher. "Ha! I get it. 'Cause we're on Botted." The two girls stared at him with condescending, judging looks. "...No?"

Vidd nearly dropped the purple energy drink he was slipping in his pocket and stared at him, unimpressed. "Seriously?"

Dyl's eyes wandered away from the warehouse and looked around before stopping at something across the road. Suddenly, she aimed her jumper at the ground, rocket-jumped away from the group—much to their surprise and confusion—and whipped out a small foldable shovel in mid-air.

"Dyl!" Nee whisper-shouted. "What the heck are you—"

Before he could finish, he heard the familiar screech of a Mini Neteo and gasped as it continuously tried to shoot Dyl with rocks from its arm. Dyl dove toward the ground and sunk her shovel's edge into the Mini's head, silencing it. Nee and Vidd were frozen, shocked at having been discovered already. Thankfully, Fee had better reaction time and shot the Mini's patrol partner with her blaster.

"Well, shucks," she sighed as the loud blaring of an alarm from the warehouse's direction caught their attention. Minis started pouring out of the warehouse and rushing to their position. "Guess we're getting the party started early."

She watched Dyl rocket-jump across the road again toward them before speaking up. "All right. Vidd, you take point."

"Aw, seriously?"

"Yes, Vidd. I'll be flanking; we have to stagger our movements. Nee, you're with Vidd. Keep the guards busy while Dyl and I rescue the hostages. We don't want this op making more noise than it needs to. Sync?"

"Sync."

BOOM!

They all ducked and braced themselves for a second before nodding. Fee held up her blaster and motioned forward. "All right. Break!"
