I woke up on the ground covered in mud and blood, I had no clue what time it was or how long I had been out. I know I looked like a  mess, I groaned loudly and struggled to get to my knees.
"ughhh shit i'm dying, my ears are ringing and my face hurts like hell, holy cow" I attempted to stand but my body felt like I was made of Jello. The sky above me had gone black I was so dead, Luna was going to rip my face off. I was supposed to have cleaned the pack house and made dinner by now.

"What the hell happened to you?" a deep gravelly voice asked 
I turned to find Jackson, Luna Brittany's younger brother walking up the pathway to the school arms full of files and paperwork. He was my history teacher.

"I got a magic kiss from a princess" sarcasm is my defense mechanism.
"Well you look like shit let me go put these papers away and I'll walk you to the pack house you shouldn't be out right now we had a breach about an hour ago" Jackson looked pissed for having to help me but unlike everyone else he did not voice his disdain.

"Alright," I replied, trying to stand up.
he held onto my elbow steadying me until I regained my balance "so who was the girl, was she cute" asked Jackson trying to lighten the mood.
I rolled my eyes "yeah she was a knockout" like I said sarcasm.
Honestly, I liked Jackson. He was a nice teacher and he didn't really bully me like the other teachers did.
After getting me steady on my feet Jackson ran inside to put the paperwork in his office. He told me it wouldn't take him very long but it felt like forever standing on that dark sidewalk plus I was right next to the woods and kept thinking about the border breach he told me about. It was messing with my head because every small sound frightened me and I swear I could see a pair of red eyes looking out from the darkness at me.
" Alright let's go" I gasp , turning to meet Jackson's eyes “whoa you okay?” he looked around for the threat that had put the fear in my gaze but found nothing because there was nothing, at least that's what i was telling myself. “Nothing”I'm not sure if I said it to reassure him or myself but I took one more look toward those darkened woods. I swear I saw a flash of white fur.

I watched as Jackson locked his white Toyota camry and started walking down the pathway that led back to the pack house. I hesitated for a second because this path went through the thickest part of the woods and even when I was a little girl they terrified me. but not wanting to be left behind I jogged to catch up,
" hey take this " Jackson reached into his pocket and pulled out a wet wipe and handed it to me.
" oh thanks" I took it and tried to wipe the now dried blood off my face and neck. I probably looked like I had been mauled by a bear. I had blood on my face, chest and hands.

The walk was quiet  except for the clicking sound of Jackson shoe laces hitting the concrete every once in a while making the journey seem a little longer than it actually was.
Jacksons hand kept grazing mine which caused me to blush, so I decided to pull my hood up to hide my face.
“Why do you do that?” he asked, stopping suddenly, grabbing my wrist and pulling me back to his side. The quick action caused me to let out a gasp, i don't think anyone had ever actually touched without hitting me before. I couldn't speak as he pulled off my hood, gently grasping my chin between his large soft fingers.
“Don't hide, i want to see you” his expression growing soft, he pressed his thumb to my bottom lip “What are you doing?”he let out a long breath letting me go to grab my hand interlacing his fingers with mine, pulling me along with him.

"You know if anyone asks just tell them that the other guy looks worse" chuckled Jackson.
I didn't really find it funny because everyone knew if it came down to a real fight I would be dead.
We finally came to the first lamppost in front of the pack house. I was so damn late.
" Hey, I can walk by myself from here. Go ahead and get back I'll be good" Jackson just nodded and lightly brushed my cheek giving me a goofy crooked smile then turned and went back the way we had just come through the darkened path.

Once he was gone I took a deep breath and stepped around the side of the lamp so I wasn't in the direct line of sight from the door. What the hell was wrong with jackson??
I leaned against the post for support and closed my eyes for a minute, I was exhausted. I needed sleep. I was tired and sore so sore, I decided to go in the back way and try and sneak into the kitchen so Luna wouldn't notice I hadn't been there,
but as soon as I opened the door Luna was waiting for me.
"Oh hey what's up Luna Brittany?" I jest nervously, rubbing the back of my neck.

Luna glared at me she looked like she was gonna kill me "where the fuck have you been!? and why are you so dirty?" Luna growled through clenched teeth
" I'm sorry I slipped and hit my face and passed out. I'm so sorry it won't happen again" truthfully I was scared. This woman was a warrior and could rip me apart in seconds .
She has no problem being mean or brutal sometimes. I had never seen someone so angry before in my life.
She just sighed looking away from me "just don't slip up again" Luna cautioned,
"We have very important guests arriving. I want you to clean up and be ready to work in the next 15 minutes or It's gonna be your ass. Do you understand!???"
I gulped, finding it hard to swallow, slowly shaking my head yes and ran away as fast as I could down the basement stairs.
I was still a little woozy so when I got into the bathroom stall I sat down hard on the toilet lid, I could feel tears running down my cheeks. I hated this place so much.
no Sammy, only a few months left you can do this, don't fall apart now. I wiped off my face and looked at my reflection,  I stared into my lifeless eyes that I saw every day in the mirror and saw someone odd she was a stranger, the girl looking back at me she looked sad, defeated I wondered when I will ever stop feeling this way,

It turned out the guest's were here to celebrate Daniel and his new title of Alpha.
We had two packs staying with us. The first to arrive was BlackDawn the alpha and Luna and 13 warriors had come but our other allied pack Moonfairie wouldn't be here till morning. They both helped us in the great war. BlackDawn wasn't a very big pack much smaller than us but the warriors they trained were amazing killing machines.
I didn't know much about Moonfairie other than their Alpha was a psychopath and would kill you for looking at him the wrong way. I had never seen him but he must be terrifying. Moonfairie was the largest pack in the entire state territory so we try to stay on good terms, We don't need more thoughtless bloodshed.       
The rest of the night was filled with loud music and dancing,the rhythmic pounding hurt my head.

Daniel looked like he was having the time of his life  I noticed she-wolves all over him, some were obviously friends of his that i seen in his company before, but most of them were older girls from the neighboring packs, the ones who wanted to be the next Luna's and knowing Dan he wasn't very bright and without a mate they could definitely win his favor if they tried hard enough.
around midnight Daniel stumbled towards me while i continued to lay out food and drinks, he pulled me in front of all the star struck she-wolves and warriors he kissed my cheek drunkenly and said " this is Sammy my baby sister she's a human"
they all gasped and stepped back like Dan had said I had the fucking clap.

" Dan your drunk let me go '' a loud growl came from right behind us "how dare you speak so casually to your Alpha mortal bitch" it was gamma luke who spoke Darlene's father, i had to force myself not to roll my eyes at him , alway so dramatic.
"no no no it's okay luke my sis can talk to me anyway she wants" Dan drunkenly slurred.
I pushed myself away from him, giving him my best. I'm alright, don't worry about me gaze.
"Alpha Daniel he's right forgive me, I'll excuse myself for the night just enjoy yourself"
Dan whined in my direction but just let me walk away, on my way back to my room Alpha zak stopped me in the doorway
" come here, so tomorrow night is going to be a big night for Daniel  and I'm gonna need You to be as invisible as possible I don't care if you come and sit around the bonfire but stay away from Daniel he doesn't need you're blighted condition near him do you understand " Alpha aura crashed over me and not to lightly which told me he was very serious
"Yes Alpha I understand" he stepped back from the doorway and allowed me to pass, i retreated to the only space I was allowed to occupy in this damn building,
I got to my room not even bothering to undress. Just hauling my exhausted body under the covers and passed out and shit did my body hurt.
