Y/n, Mike, Max and El were hiding behind a counter. It wasn't the best hiding spot but it was the closest place they could go. They couldn't make an easy escape.

Way across the mall from where the four of them where, Jonathan, Will, Nancy and Lucas were hiding behind the car, close to the door but they couldn't make an easy escape either.

The Mind Flayer was searching around but hadn't spotted anyone yet. They were all terrified and no one dared to move.

Y/n could hear Dustin's voice on the supercomm, asking if they were okay, which they were for now but none of them could move to answer him. She wasn't sure how he knew the Mind Flayer was at the mall with them.

The Mind Flayer was walking around and y/n heard it get close to them a couple times. She was terrified and was squeezing Mike's hand tightly. El was beside her, shaking.

After a couple minutes neither y/n, Mike, Max or El had heard the Mind Flayer get close to them and Mike peeked his head over the counter.

"It's turned away." He told the three girls. "If we go up the stairs now, we'll make it." He gestured to the close by stair case.

"No way, not with y/n's leg." Max said.

"The three of you go, I'll just slow you down, get El out of here. I'll be fine." Y/n spoke up.

Mike turned to her. "You're crazy if you think I'm leaving you behind." He said.

"Max, El go quickly! Meet us outside." He said to the two other girls.

Max looked at y/n, unsure but y/n quickly said "Go!"

Max grabbed onto El's hand, looked over her shoulder and made sure the Mind Flayer was still turned away before the two of them took off up the stairs.

"You should go while it's still turned away." Y/n said to Mike.

"Not without you." Mike said. "We need another way out."

Y/n suddenly remembered. "Through The Gap." She said.

Mike looked over the counter again and saw the Mind Flayer was still turned away.

"Okay. Now." He said and tightened his grip on her hand and they both went as quickly as they could, considering y/n's leg into The Gap.

It was just her luck that y/n stepped on some broken glass, creating a loud clanging noise.

"Shit!" She hissed, as Mike dragged her behind an isle.

She heard the Mind Flayer, immediately roar and stomp over towards them. They didn't dare to move again.

Y/n heard it get closer until it was right by her ear. She started breathing heavily out of fear. It was going to find them.

Her and Mike saw an arm of the Mind Flayer come up beside them, making y/n's breathing quicken even more and Mike put a hand over her mouth.

She closed her eyes and prepared to be caught but the only thing that came was a loud bang, like the noise of a balloon popping and the arm retracted.

She let out a sigh of relief, knowing the others must of made a diversion. Which they did, Lucas was the one to pop the balloon with his wrist rocket, sending the Mind Flayer away from y/n and Mike and to a part of the mall none of them were at.
