Karen and Frank flipped through the documents until late at night. But Castle soon realized that the information really had to be restricted and that reading it as if it was just a simple book could have serious repercussions.

And so he decided to remove the journalist from this story.

"-What, you don't trust me?

-No, it has nothing to do with trust, Karen.

-So why now that it's getting interesting, you want to stop me from reading?

-Because the owner of this information will surely want to eliminate everyone who saw this. So at least for once in your life, obey me and don't get involved in this story anymore. Understood ?''

The young woman maintains her determined gaze in the icy eyes of her friend.

"Please Karen...I won't support to lose you too..."

The blonde finally nodded reluctantly. And gets up to give the man the laptop so he can continue his research. Without her.

Frank smiles slightly at the woman, then he steps outside into the dark night. He leaves to the direction of his vehicle, without even a look for Karen who watches him go.

---

"So how do we find it now? Asked Steven having seen that their research was going nowhere.

-Wait, I have an idea.

-What- what idea?

-Do you see the convenience store right there?

-Yeah...

-Well, there's a surveillance camera covering the street right in front. So if we're lucky, we get inside, sneak up to their computer, and see who picked up the pyramid. Nothing's easier.

-Yeah, nothing could be easier, of course..." Steven replies hesitantly, not so convinced of Marc's plan.

Spector looks directly around him, as discreetly as he could anyway, before entering the small shop and kindly asking the kid standing behind the counter to show him the rush cameras. The latter accepts until the two of them find themselves in the hallway and the youngster realizes that this was not really a normal request.

"-Uh why do you want to see them exactly? Are you a cop or something like that?

-No, look, I just lost something really important and I want to try to find it. If I can look at your cameras I can see what happened with it.

-I'm not dumb, okay?! I've watched detective shows on Netflix, and I know you need a warrant for me to show you anything!

-I don't want to have to do this, but if you and your stupid hat don't get out of my way-"

***

When Marc front again, he is already typing on the computer keyboard, and watching videos from surveillance cameras.

"-The fuck- ?"

It wasn't until he swiveled around in the castor chair he must have sit in at one point or another that he noticed the poor boy on the floor with his cap draped over his back. The kid is bathing in a pool of his own blood. The puddle is quite huge and he seems to have been literally slaughtered. Good God.

"-Jake! What the fuck is wrong with you ?! We said we only kill people who DESERVE to die for god sake!

-Those who deserve to die and those who get in my way, or the guys named Steve because it's really a shitty name.

-Hey, you added that! And the diminutive of my name is Steve, so it's my nickname!

-Steven, no one uses your nickname. And that's a good thing...

-But-

-Steven, just don't. Ok, we see who picked up the pyramid and then we run off before someone falls on us.

-Don't worry, I would just killed them. The new-yorker alter simply responds as if it was completely normal.

-Jake..."

The name alone sounded more like a pretty dry rebuke, but in reality Lockley really was doing whatever he wanted. And, deep, deep down, he's not really a bad guy. He's just extremely overprotective.

''-What? I was joking... de hecho, absolutament no...

-Okay, that's enough. Videos everyone.

Marc moves the video back in front of him in search of Steven. He finally sees him, walking a bit like a brainless chicken, and obviously not looking ahead. Then, he stumbles head-on against a barracked man with his dog. As a result of this collision, they see Steven who of course dropped the fucking pyramid before hastily getting up without picking it up and then speeding off. During the race, he got stuck in a granny and eats the ground for a second time, while receiving a cane stroke from the disgruntled old lady right in the ribs. All this before running off and- wait what?

"-N-no you don't need to replay it

-Did you really fall twice while running into two different people in like five second time?! Jake exclaims before bursting into an uncontrollable laughter.

-Ah, oh my god, she really didn't miss you! I knew I hadn't those bruises before!" Marc quickly joins the taxi driver in his giggles.

Steven's face is redder than a tomato, if not more, when he tries to hide it with his hands, while the mercenary replays his attack at the hands of the old lady. And Jake looks like he's about to die because he's laughing so much.
