"You know, you aren't what I'd thought you'd be." Tilly said, elbowing Hunter.

Jay stared at the two, smile under his mask. Sure, he should be patrolling, but what's more fun than that? Spying on your besties as they make up, catch up and flirt. Except Tilly was the one flirting. Ah well, girlboss moment.

Jay couldn't really make out the words that they were saying, but he could read their thoughts- both which showed genuine reactions and trust. Jay missed this.

But he still couldn't shake what he saw.

Hunter, losing a sister, adoptive mother and being literally dropped out of a window (Jay didn't know how he was still alive at this point) and Tilly's mother being- well, he can't reveal it. The author needs suspension, damnit.

But these were rather heavy burdens he had to hold for the sake of them, and the world.

Truth is, he's been contacted by the Hero agency many times, to hire him. But he always declined.

He didn't want to be used, or to be under-paid, or anything. He wanted freedom. Sure, it would mean that Hunter and possibly Tilly could be official heroes, and that they'd always have food on the table, and that they'd stay in a nice house, and that they'd be safe, and they-

"Ska."

Fuck. He was caught.

"YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME!"

"Get back here!" Tilly shouted, racing behind, Hunter following suit. If people looked (which they did), they'd see the resembalence of three kids playing tag. And that's what it was, just kids being kids.

Little did they know, these next few days were gonna be rough.
