A/N:

Hello once again everyone and welcome to my new story called "His Top Student"While thinking about the previous stories I've done, I have decided to make another one but a lot more into detail than the others. The more writing and reading I do from others, helps me learn more of the basics on becoming a better writer.
Enjoy!

"Derek writing isn't just something you write down on a piece of paper, writing is how you want to express yourself to the world. Remember that".
The constant thought of my fathers words never shifted from my mind. He was always the one I relied on when I needed the most encouragement. His quotes, and gentle taps on my shoulder are what excited me to become a writer that I am today. When he passed on, everything I had in mind collapsed in front of my very eyes. My job, my enthusiasm, and my sanity.
Now, realizing that even though death happens for a reason and how it's not okay to sob and cringe over it forever. Taking my father's word, I am going to finish what I came for, an author.

I've been residing in Upstate New York for the past 5 months working on occasional editing jobs for Zayne Saunders (famously known for his writings of deeply submissive love stories). I admit, I do feel a little uncomfortable editing his "whipping" scenes and other things along those lines but, It does pay a successful amount of money. This is a part-time job though, I need something to do full-time to keep me from grieving from the past.

Once I arrive in my office, the place is incredibly silent, as always. I breathe in the sweet crisp smell of Apple Cinnamon and crash down onto the black love-seat, setting all the white pillows on top of me to keep me a little warmer. I never wanted to get up.

The door opens and Saddie Schram walks in. Her long auburn hair drags over her shoulder and her skin tight black Calvin Klein dress showed almost everything except her self-esteem. She is head secretary for Zayne Saunders Inc. Mostly because she persuades her way in to be ahead of everyone. I think Zayne enjoys that a little too much for when every time I walk past his office, I hear constantly her seducing giggles and his deep voice near her throat. I always gag a little. I've never actually seen the man. I usually am always clocking out before he leaves the building. I'm always a little curious as to what/who I am editing for.

"Hello Derek, how is the business going for today?" Her high pitched voice irritates my ears.

"Another day, another dollar" She giggles setting down my decaf extra sugar coffee on my desk.

"I know what you mean by that" She winks shutting the door and prancing down the hall.

After 5 hours of non-stop paper work, it's time for home.

I walk up to the clock out box sliding my time card through and heading into the elevator. I turn around pressing the button and waited until the elevator lifted down to the lobby.

"Wait! Hold the doors!" A deep voice says as I stop the doors from closing shut.

A man steps in. About 6'5 very slim and I could tell he was a stubborn man. His glaring grey eyes told me he was amusing and worth your while. He had the face of a 28 year old a slight 5 o'clock shadow surrounding his jawline. A black suit shows his broad muscular arms and his ripped body. My face felt a little warm and I couldn't help control it.

"Thank you."

His deep broad voice could lead millions of soldiers in the army.

"No problem".

"And you are?" His eyes laid on my suitcase.

"Derek. Derek Slater." I held out my hand attempting to shake his but he didn't budge.

"It's been a while, Derek" The man says clicking his tongue emphasizing the 'k'.

"E-Excuse me?" I stutter.

He steps out of the elevator as I follow him. He walks off as I follow behind, tapping his shoulder as he stops in his tracks turning around to me.

"What do you mean by that?"

"I don't mean to bring anything up Mr.Slater. Until, next time" he nods his head as he walks out the doors.

Weird. I never told him my last name. I don't know this man. I've never seen a man like this before in my life. I clearly think that wasn't Mr. Saunders. Or maybe it was a prank one of the co-workers had played on me. They've been doing that lately since Halloween is coming soon.

I head out the doors saying goodbye to the lobby staff and waiting for the next cab to stop.

Finally, arriving back to the apartments, I unlock the door throwing my suitcase everywhere and just pounding on the bed. It was the perfect time for a nap. Actually, it was the perfect time for anything. I decide to grab a pizza from nearby Ramano's. My dad always took me there when I was a kid whenever New Year's was going on. I've loved it ever since then. I slip on red graphic tee, blue jeans, and vans and head out. I decide to walk for it is only 1 mile away downtown. I always felt nice seeing different faces everyday.

I walk through the door. The sweet smell of Ramano's tomato sauce filled the air. Of course the man himself Ramo, was there running every station from cooking pizzas, busting tables, and running the cash register. The man could never sit down even if he had a day off.

The line slowly dims down as I make my way up to Ramo.

"Derek, my boy! Good to see you! How's is everything going?" His rugged and tired eyes looked at me.

"I'm still coping Ramo. How's Maria?"

"Maria is doing very good my boy. What can I make you today?"

"Eh, how about the usual pepperoni and cheese" I grin.

"Anything for a friend" Ramo heads back towards the kitchen as I sit down in the waiting lounge. A woman, dressed in all leather clothing waited as well. Her 3 children surrounding her. They all looked as if they were nervous about something. I didn't want to ask. I would be really rude to invite myself into their situations.

"Pep and Cheese hot hot hot!" Ramo yells as for it's my turn.

"How much today Ramo?"

"It's on the house today, my boy enjoy". He smiled.

I grinned and whispered thank you and headed out the door.

Once back at the apartment, I eat a little pizza and watch 'Sherlock Holmes'. My Father and I always watched that together. It brings back good memories when I watch it.

I close the box and wrap myself up in the sheets. A good nap sounds great right now. I close my eyes with the tiny voices in the background and slowly go to sleep.
