Chapter 3: Explanation

1 hour later

ORC Building -

Rias has seen a lot of strange things in her life, but she things this just may take the cake. They were currently in the ORC building, all surrounding a table. On this table was the head of the newest student at Kuoh Academy, Kai. Even though a normal person would think this was horrifying, it was only somewhat strange to her and her peerage, save for Issei. He was still new. 

While they all gathered here everyone was quiet, except the reason they were here. The head of Kai was still alive and cursing up a storm. Yelling about putting his head back on and how he would kill them all. His body was currently on the floor with Koneko poking it with her foot.

Rias after hearing enough obscenities spoke up,

Rias: Alright Kai, If you answer my questions and comply with my demands then I'll put your head back on your body.

While Kai could be a hothead. he was also a very collected person. So before he spoke he thought of what he could do in this situation. While he could just use his Sharingan, he wanted to see where this is going. He even let them "capture" him just to satisfy his curiosity.  Now he will get his answers.

Kai: Fine, what do you want?

Rias moved his head to her desk while she sat down at it.

Rias: What are you Kai? There's no way your a human, not with the feats we saw you pull off tonight. Your not a devil, nor a type of angel, so what are you?

Kai looked at her with a bored expression, 

Kai: Sorry to disappoint, but I'm human as the day I was born. And what are you people supposed to be?

Rias was left confused at this, what he said seemed impossible. She decided to answer his question.

Rias: We are Devils, and this is my territory.

Rias then notices Koneko seemed to notice something.

Rias: Koneko? What's wrong?

Koneko was silent for a few seconds before answering.

Koneko: I can sense chakra coming from him.

This caught Rias's interest knowing that chakra was dominantly used by the Yokai. Rias turned her head to Kai.

Rias: Mind explaining that Kai? 

Kai just gave her a blank expression then sighed.

Kai: Fine, I'll just give you the short version of my life story. That will give you your answers, so you better sit down because this is gonna take a while. 

Everyone sits down around him to listen to his story. He explained his life from his parents death to his life after going into the service of his Lord Jashin. He also explained his connection to chakra, it being his lifeforce essentially and how he does most of what he does.

To say she was shocked was an understatement, but this gave her an idea.

Rias: Okay Kai, I have an offer. How would you like to join my peerage?

This caught Kai's interest. 

Kai: What's a peerage?

Rias: A peerage is a group who are selected by a king to act as servants. The names of each peice are based on chess. I'm the King of my peerage, Kiba is my Knight, Akeno is my Queen, Koneko is my Rook, and Issei is my Pawn. Each piece has a unique trait.

Kai: Let me guess, King is the Leader, Queen is a combination of all, Knight is speed, Rook is strength, and Pawns are foot soldiers.

Rias: Pretty spot on Kai, if you were to join, you would become a devil and be treated as family. Many masters aren't as kind, but my household is very different, as we treat our servants like family.

Kai honestly felt tempted, the chance to have a surrogate family. But, there was his servitude to Jashin. Would this be a problem to him? Would he even allow it?

The more he thought he remembered something,  Jashin didn't care what he did as long as he made his sacrifices at least once a month. He still had some questions for Rias though.

Kai: Okay, so what if I join? Would I still be able to do what I want?

Rias: Of course, What you do in your free time is none of my business, unless it effects your club work that is.

Kai thought about it for a moment and then came to a decision.

Kai: Okay Rias, I'll join you. But first...

Kai then screams loud

Kai: PUT MY HEAD BACK ON MY DAMN BODY!

Everyone then remembered that he was currently just a head at the moment and scrambled to put his body back together. With Akeno grabbing his head and Koneko holding his body up by the torso. Placing his head onto his body, they then stitched his head to keep it from falling off.

Kai: *sighs* That's more like it, now let's get this show on the road.

Rias nods and pulls out her Evil Pieces from a magic circle. She then proceeded to pull out the remaining pieces. A Knight, Rook and a Bishop.

Kai:*in his head* It really is just a chess set.

Rias held each piece to his chest and nothing happened.

Rias: Hm, that's concerning. None of them seem to work... Unless...

Rias then makes another magic circle and summons another piece. This one looking very strange, looking like it was unstable.

Rias: This is a mutation piece, they are pretty rare and this was gifted to me from my brother. This piece is very powerful with an uncertain amount of potential in every one. Let's see if it works.

Rias holds the piece up and it immediately glows and merges into his chest. Kai felt weird but just chalked it down to the piece adjusting into place.

Rias: Well it worked, welcome to the Occult Research Club Kai. I'll tell you more about life as a devil tomorrow. Tonight we celebrate our newest members.

Kai smiled,

Kai: *In his head* This seems like it will be quite the journey.
