[The beginnings of the Goddess Pele and the titles she commanded]
Born in the ancient lands of Kahiki from Kūwaha'ilo and Haumea was Pele. Her birth rattled the skies and shook the seas. Her parents foretold her power would grow and she would become ever so powerful.
As Pele grew in her beauty, so did her power. She would soon have to be tutored and trained by her uncle, Lonomakua.
Deep underground in a hollow lava tube, Pele would learn all she could from her uncle. He told her of the movement of the heavens. The houses of the skies. The paths of the waters. The flow of the winds in the seasons and the power of the rivers of flame and lava.
Teaching her how to use the 'aunaki, soft wood, paired with the 'aulima, pointed stick, he taught her how to create fire.
She would stay there, rubbing together the pieces as the earth around her rattled. As the smoke rose from the 'aunaki, so did the smoke rise from the earth. As sparks igntied, so did the waves of lava from the craters.
Pele's power grew and her might became immense. Soon, there was no doubt. She would be the Goddess of Fire and Volcanoes, the great Pele.
Pele'aihonua, Pele the earth eater, for her destruction.
Pelehonuamea, Pele who shapes the land, for being the creator of it all.
Kaulaokeahi, the red of flames, for the fires she commanded.
