3rd Person Pov
Alex Clarke went down with Hopper in the eyes of Hawkins, a hero. But with such a large event happening in a small town, it was expected to be brought up many times. For most it served as a reminder of the heroic sacrifices people made to protect others, but to Max it was torture.
To be consistently reminded that two people she loved in different ways were gone and there was nothing they could do about it ate her up inside. She was thankful for Alex's parting gift though, she'd listened to his music so many times she could probably recite them off by heart. She'd almost never listen to songs if they weren't made by him and she took her music player with his album on it everywhere, including to the counsellor to lie about how she didn't cry most days as it felt like her world was slowly crumbling around her.
Max's grades had dipped when Alex died, mainly due to the lack of a study partner and her step dad leaving her mother. Sure she could play it off as she was fine but deep down everyone could tell she'd leave school with an emptiness in her.
Max started sleeping longer, most assumed it was a trait she picked up from Alex as he was known to do that but in reality it was only partially the reason, the real reason would go ignored by Max but deep down she knew.
But Alex wasn't dead. In fact he was worse, the KGB knew of his powers, they couldn't force it out of him and couldn't mind control him back so they sought to do the next best thing, supress it. Load him with whatever pills they had access to and make him about as effective as a goldfish who drank way to much coffee.
They sent him to the same place they sent Hopper to although they never specified a reason why. They shaved his head and practically tortured him, that didn't change his attitude due to the drugs, you name it and Alex was forced to take it.
Alex tried making friends with his fellow guards and prisoners but his attempts never made any progress, except for a guard he didn't know the name of. Alex had a lot of things in his mind messed up due to the drugs, but he never forgot, every night he'd remember Max and the promise he made to her, a promise that fell short, it dwelled on him that she doesn't even know he's still alive.
Hopper and Alex currently stood hammering a nail into a railroad track, well more like Hopper hammering and Alex danced about blabbering due to the drugs he took that same morning. A man in a guards uniform that Alex instantly recognized approached.
"Yoo hoo Mr guard man over here!" Alex excitedly called out.
"You look tired Americans, why are you taking so long?" The guard says in Russian, Alex was quick to become almost fluent in Russian as he realised he'd be here for a while.
"Pig" Hopper muttered in Russian, he was a slow learner so Alex had to teach him, although in his drugged up state he wasn't the best.
"Come again?" The guard said offended.
"Asshole" Hopper spat as the guards eyes turned to fury.
The guard grabbed his shirt and forced him behind a row of logs, Alex excitedly dropped his hammer and chased off after them, he found them talking behind the logs and slid into the conversation.
"Ooh I love gossip, what we talking about?" He cheered excitedly.
"I have news from America" The guard says smirking.
"YES!...you know I have been dreaming of Max ever since I got here" Alex mumbles happily thinking of Max.
"They're bringing your money to Alaska" The guard continues.
"Who, who's bringing the money to where, is it Max?" Alex asks quickly.
"I don't know her name but she sounds very pretty" The guard says.
"Its probably Max then" He says daydreaming about Max.
"When?" Hopper asks disregarding Alex.
"Today I hope, if my pilot gets the money it'll be in his plane when he arrives tomorrow, then you can hitch a ride back to your country, I get rich and you two are free, sound too good to be true yes?" The guard smiles.
Alex stares into the distance and sees a figure in the woods up the hill, however their too far away to make out any features, the figure stretches its hand out as if to beckon Alex over to it, confused, Alex slowly walks over to the figure only to be yanked back by Hopper.
"Better not be hungry because I have a plan" Hopper says as he brings Alex over to the food station, they both grab their food and sit next to a big guy who Alex had dubbed 'Beefy'. "Ask him to break out leg braces with his hammer"
"Heeeeey beefy, listen buddy uhh...why don't you grab that itty bitty hammer and let all that pent up rage against me and my American buddies leg braces" Alex smiles as he pats the Russian mans back forcefully.
"...Gimme your soup" He grunts.
"Sure thing pal" Alex smiles as he slides his sound and bread over to him.
"...His too" He grunts again.
"Of course my good man" Alex grins and hands him Hoppers food as well.
"Stupid Americans" He scoffs as the two wait for the man to finish his lunch.
Time skip
The man stands behind Hopper as he looks over to Alex beside him and he delivers two thumbs up and a massive smile. He sighs and strikes Hopper as hard as he can on his chain, Hopper grunts in pain and motions for him to do it again, he does so and Alex buts in.
"Ooh ooh me next, me next" He says excited.
Time skip
After getting past the chain guards un detected, Hopper and Alex go to their shared cell and take their boots off. Hopper's cut appears way worse than Alex's, apparently the big brute took pity on the fact Alex was still a kid.
"I'm gonna take my anklet off" Hopper says as he begins working it down.
"I will too, just need a liiiiitle boost" Alex giggles as he takes a pill that the guards told him to have and pops it in his mouth.
Alex and Hopper begin pushing their anklets off and Hoppers face is shocked when not 5 seconds pass and he already hears a clang of Alex's chain, he looks over to him and sees his smiling face, not even a tear in his eyes. The drugs really did a number on him.
