Carlos De Vil was not a morning person. His getting-ready routine consisted of literally rolling out of bed ("The impact of the floor helps me wake up"), throwing on whatever clothes he can find, and if he's lucky, eating some breakfast or maybe brushing his teeth.

It was hard enough to try to wake up early enough to get to class on time, he was not planning on getting up even earlier so he could put some thought into what he was wearing.

So of course, one morning, he was going through his normal routine.

Hit the floor? Check
Wearing clothes? Check
Teeth brushed? Too tired. He's sure he has some mints in his bag.

And out the door just in time to make sure he doesn't miss the beginning of his first class.

He walked into the classroom and sat down next to Jay. Jay, unlike Carlos, liked to get up at completely unreasonable hours and go for a run before class started, so he always beat Carlos there.

When Carlos sat down, Jay flashed him a small smile, which Carlos returned with as much enthusiasm as he could muster at that hour.

Carlos went through his day the same way he normally did, but something felt different. A good different. It felt like getting a constant hug from someone you love. It felt like a soft jacket that was just a little bit too big, which just makes it more cozy. It felt like smelling the most comforting smell you could think of. Carlos knew this day was a good type of different, but he couldn't place why.

The day continued on, and he started to feel a bit off. People were staring at him. People were whispering about him. He had no clue why, but they were. But he still had that 'good different' feeling coming from... somewhere. He wrapped his jacket tighter around himself and kept going through his day.

  Eventually, Ben pulled him aside.

"I didn't know you and Jay were together!" Ben said

Carlos looked around. "What are you talking about?"

"...Your jacket" Ben replied, as if it was obvious

Carlos, more confused than he had ever been, pulled off the jacket he was wearing. He looked at it and noticed it was blue with yellow sleeves and the Auradon Prep crest on the left side of the chest. The pieces started to click together in his mind as he turned the jacket over. It finally hit him.

Written in bold letters across the back of the jacket were the words "Of The Isle". As in "Jay Of The Isle". As in "This is my roommate's jacket". As in "I've been wearing my roomate's letterman jacket all day and now everyone thinks we're dating"

Carlos stared at the jacket for a moment before snapping out of his trance.

"I need to go" he whispered to Ben before darting down the hallway to his dorm room.

When Carlos got to his dorm, he collapsed onto his bed.

"...Is everything okay?" Jay asked, startling Carlos, who hadn't even realized Jay was in the dorm

"Why didn't you tell me I was wearing your jacket?" Carlos replied after taking a moment to catch his breath

"I thought you knew!" Jay responded "I thought you did it on purpose!"

"Why would I wear your letterman jacket on purpose?!"

"Well, I just thought..." Jay trailed off

"What?" Carlos asked softly

"Well... I don't know, it's just... we've always had that little... fake flirting thing going on and I thought maybe it felt... real to you" Jay whispered

"Why would it feel real to me?"

Jay looked away. Carlos' eyes widened.

"Jay, was it... real for you?"

Jay's response was so quiet that Carlos almost didn't hear it.

"Yeah"

Carlos took a deep breath.

"Okay. Well. I'm not upset with you at all. But, I need some time to process that, so I'm gonna take a walk, okay?"

Jay nodded

"Do you want me to leave Dude here?"

Jay nodded again

"Okay. I'll be back soon"

Carlos slipped out the door, without a jacket this time, and walked down the hallway. Before long, he found himself outside. He wandered a bit more before finding a tree that looked sturdy and climbing it.

He liked to find places like this when he had to think. Nobody would bother him up here.

So... he had a lot to think through.

His roommate and best friend that he's been play-flirting with for who knows how long is actually into him.

He wore said best friend's jacket today so now people think they're dating.

He felt weirdly comfortable all day.

He was wearing the jacket today.

He felt weirdly comfortable all day on the day he was wearing the jacket.

The jacket smelled really nice. It smelled like Jay.

Jay smelled really nice.

He honestly didn't have any negative feelings about Jay being into him.

He actually felt kind of good about it.

Oh.

Oh...

"I'm into Jay" Carlos whispered "I might even be more than just 'into him'... I need to do something about this"

He hopped down from his tree and started running back to his dorm once again. This time, when he got there, he didn't go straight for his bed.

He knocked instead of letting himself in. When Jay answered, Carlos immediately wrapped his arms around Jay's waist and pressed their lips together.

Jay stood shocked for a moment before coming to his senses and wrapping his arms around Carlos and kissing back. After a few seconds, they pulled away from the kiss.

"Hi?" Jay questioned

"Hi" Carlos replied, out of breath "I think I'm in love with you"

"Woah" Jay responded "Okay, that's a lot, but that kiss was cool, close the door and let's do that again"
