One look, dark room meant just for you
Time moved too fast, you played it back
Buttons on a coat, light-hearted joke
No proof, not much, but you saw enough

I felt his eyes on me well before my sister brought him over to be introduced. They were alluring, to say the least. From here they appeared to be like the midnight sky, inky blue, but I'm sure, up close, they were lighter, brighter. I knew there was a new attorney at her office. She told me as much when we were planning this welcome party for him. Some former ADA from the Boston area. But this would be the first time I was meeting him.

"And this is my sister, Essie. She's the event planner that put this whole evening together. I also represent her business. Essie, this is Andy Barber, our new defense attorney."

"It's nice to meet you." I say, offering my hand, which he shakes firmly. That's a good sign. He's confident, sure in himself and the image that he presents to the world. I also notice the indent on his left hand where a wedding band used to be, for many years based on the groove in his skin.

"You as well. Rose has told me a lot about you." He replies with a smile.

"All lies, I'm sure." I laugh.

"I don't know about that. She said you were really amazing at what you do and after everything I saw tonight, I can't help but agree." He says, looking around in awe.

"Thank you." I say looking down at the ground, trying to hide my blush.

"And do you put together all of the events the firm puts on?"

"I do." I reply with a nod.

"So I'll be seeing you again?"

"I think the probability is pretty high." I smile at him before he is pulled away in the direction oof another group of people and businesses that are represented by one of the largest firms in Seattle.

...

The party had ended and all but Rose and I had left. We were making sure the vendors got all of their equipment back and had received payment. "So I think tonight was a success." Rose says.

"And I think the guest of honor had a good time." I comment as I pack up the tables cloths from the folded pile on one of the tables.

"You would know." She says as we pull on our coats and she grabs one of the totes to help me to the van.

"What does that mean?"

"It means you couldn't take your eyes off of him for most of the night."

"That's not true." I defend myself, even though my blushing cheeks were giving me away.

"If it's not true, then I guess you don't want to know that when you weren't looking at him, he was looking at you."

"Stop being mean." I grumble as I continue down the path to the parking lot.

"I'm being honest. I really wish you wouldn't be like this. You are insanely beautiful and any guy would be lucky to have you."

"I'd be satisfied with just one. One that doesn't come with abusive mommy issues."

"Well, you can be satisfied because he's waiting for you by your ride." She says, as I fall down.

"You're hilarious." I say rolling my eyes as she laughs hysterically.

"Here, let me help you with that." Andy says, jogging over to us and grabbing the tote from where it had landed in front of me.

"Thanks. I swear I'm not usually this clumsy." I say quietly as I stand back up, wincing a little as I put weight on my right ankle.

Andy notices and brings an arm out, stabilizing me before I can fall over. "That ankle isn't looking so good. It's already starting to swell. Let me give you a ride home."

I go to argue but both Rose and Andy shoot any points down, in a way that only people who argue for a living would be capable of. "I'll take the van keys and drop it off tomorrow." Rose says, rifling through my bag until she finds them.

I sigh, knowing there's nothing that can be done about this now. "Ok Casanova, take me home."
