The next day was a Saturday.

I spent the whole day hanging out with Jackie at home.

"Hey - so," Jackie said, stuffing a handful of chips into her mouth. "There's a party at this guy's house tonight. Wanna go?" She asked.
"Hey Mum, there's a party tonight at a friend's house tonight. I can go, right?" I yelled.
"Yeah - all good. Don't get into too much trouble you two!" Mum smiled from the kitchen.
"Looks like I can go." I laughed, turning back to Jackie.
"Your Mum is awesome. She's so chill." Jackie smiled while shaking her head.

"Hey - so I have something to tell you." I grinned, flicking through my wardrobe for something to wear to the party.
"I knew it! I knew you were hiding something! Spill." Jackie said.
"I saw Matty last night." I blurted out.
"What?!" Jackie yelled.
I blushed. "He came and picked me up at two in the morning and we went to this park and we kissed and stuff." I smiled to myself, fiddling with a button on a shirt.
"What else?" Jackie asked with a smirk.
"He - he said he liked me." I admitted quietly.
"What?!" Jackie exclaimed.
"Well - not exactly. I said he was scared of falling for anyone and he said I was the only one he felt something with." I recounted.
"Aww!" Jackie screamed, falling back on to my bed with a grin. "You two are so cute."
"Shut up and help me pick something." I laughed, facing my wardrobe to hide my blushing.

After an hour of flicking through my wardrobe, Jackie and I finally decided on our outfits.
Jackie was wearing black ripped denim shorts, as well as a black singlet with a yin yang symbol on it.
I decided on wearing a pair of light washed denim skinny jeans, a grey oversized shirt and a cream cardigan.

It was nine o clock when Jackie and I climbed into her tiny car on the way to the party. The sky was dotted with silver stars and there was a slight breeze in the air.
I vaguely knew the host of the party - some guy in my grade called Walt who lived on acreage and always hosted awesome parties people talked about for months after.
"So you think Matty will be there tonight?" Jackie asked, taking her eyes off the road for a second to look at me.
My own eyes widened. I hadn't even thought about Matty being there tonight.
"Uh - I hadn't even thought about it to be honest. Do you think he'll be there?" I asked, flicking down the passenger side mirror to check my eyeliner and lipgloss.
"Probably. But don't worry, you look hot. You'll be fine. He likes you, you're fine." She tried to reassure me.
Trees whizzed passed us as we sped down the highway. We sang along to the radio at the tops of our lungs and I couldn't keep the grin off my face.
I loved moments like these, laughing and singing at night with my best friend. It was the sort of stuff I wanted to treasure.

We arrived at the property along with a load of other cars. I found myself scanning for Matty's black car.

I tried to keep my mind off him.
I didn't know what we were.
I found myself thinking that maybe he did just want a one night stand.
Maybe he didn't like me.
Maybe this was all just a joke.

Jackie drove down the long driveway and parked in a tight spot next to other cars.
We both walked inside the giant house and, almost immediately, red cups of beer were thrusted into our hands.
"I'll tell you if I see Matty, but try not to stress. Just have a good night, yeah?" Jackie yelled over the music. I nodded, walking with her to the centre of the party to chat to some people.
We danced and talked for a fair while before Walt stood up on a coffee table in the middle of the room.
"Oi!" He yelled, getting everyone's attention.
"Okay. So, for most of us, it's our last year in school. And that's both equally terrifying and exciting. We're all gonna end up growing up soon. So I have a game for us to play, to try and be kids again. Everyone follow me outside." Walt said, jumping down from the coffee table he was standing on and walking out into his massive backyard. I walked with the throng of teenagers into the breezy warm night.
