"Let me see if I got it correct."
We'd arrived a few minutes ago, greeting mum at the kitchen with a smile before Scott ushered my upstairs to show me my old room. Turns out, the room was exactly the same, much to my surprise. The moment Scott had opened the door and the colour of my pink unicorn covers was revealed, I couldn't hold back the sob that escaped my lips.
With a lot of comforting and reassuring words, Scott had managed to stop my crying and we sat on the bed, as Scott told me about how he got bitten and all about the Hale family. Including the plan, they had established for tomorrow.
"Okay," I start, looking at the bullet in my hand, "so, Derek Hale, was kidnapped – you think." Scott nodded.
"We think," he affirms.
"You want to go to Mexico because," I pause for a brief moment to recall what he'd said, "you think the Calaveras kidnapped him because you found a thing–"
"A bullet," he adds.
"Right, a bullet in his apartment, which," I stop again, glancing at him with a confused expression, "you entered sometime last week, somehow."
"Yeah, you got it!" He says with a proud smile.
"Okay," I let out a small awkward laugh. I give him the bullet back, "but I don't get it, why go through all this for Derek? From what you've told me, he seems kind of like a douche. And he's a Hale."
"No, we need Derek," Scott chuckles. He has this fond look on his face, hands shaking slightly as he gripped the bullet in his right hand, "we need to find him. Lydia got a weird feeling the other day about it, but she doesn't know what it meant and that's already bad as it is," he says, face twisted in concern.
Lydia got a weird feeling?
Almost as if sensing my confusion, Scott said, "Lydia is a banshee."
Well, that explains it.
Whatever this Derek dude did for my brother, it seriously left an impact and honestly, Scott seems to trust him a lot. So, what the hell, right?
"Okay, I'll do it."
Just as he was about to thank me, relieved grin on his face, mum shouts from downstairs, followed by the sound of a soft thud, "kids! Dinner's on the table!"
"Thank you," he says with a sigh, pulling me into a hug.
I only smile in return, "it's the least I can do, Scott."
He shakes his head but doesn't say anything in return, nodding towards the door as we head downstairs to the kitchen. I notice a few pictures as we walk, catching the sight of a green-eyed boy next to Scott, and the picture of a girl, slightly paler than both of us with black curls, hung on the wall.
I decide not to ask about them yet, noting how the two were not present today when I was introduced to his pack.
When we enter the kitchen, the table was already neatly set with a big plate of pasta in the middle, smelling absolutely great.
"I hope you like this," mum says, looking excited. I smile at her nervousness, sit beside Scott and serve myself, smiling at mum before taking a bite.
And honestly, I think I just ate the best pasta in the whole world.
"Oh, my god! Mum this is amazing," I exclaim, taking another bite.
Scott beams beside me, grinning at her, "yeah, she does the best pasta."
She laughs at the comment, patting his shoulder before sitting down. We eat as we chatter, sharing a few stories from the past as Scott tells some other things he and his friends went through, whilst mum just contributes to the conversations with a few comments.
