Second Chance

Welcome Back

The second they heard the news everyone started shouting.

"QUIET!" someone yelled.

They looked toward the person who said it.

It was Ro.

"Will someone please explain to me, number one, why all you elves are screaming your heads off, and number two, why haven't I been notified that Lord Funkyhair was back," Ro yelled.

Everyone ignored her.

"Where? Where is Kenric?"

"The Neverseen. I got back to my castle and found him lying on the floor. I checked his pulse, it was there," Oralie whispered breathlessly, "He was covered in burns and had a broken leg. That's when I hailed Elwin and the other Councillors. And--."

Oralie had tried to stand up but immediately fainted.

"Someone take her to Elwin," Grady called.

A flash came from outside. It was the Councillors.

They all ran outside.

"What's going on?"

"Is Kenric really alive?"

"One question at a time," Councillor Emery boomed.

"Can we see him?" Sophie asked quietly.

"He is currently unconscious, Miss Foster, but you are welcome to see him--."

With that, everyone leaped over to the Healing Center, leaving the Councillors alone.

"--afterward," Emery finished with a sigh.

"Kids nowadays don't listen do they?" Bronte groaned.

"They REALLY don't," Ro cut in, "especially this bunch."

"It's nice to see you, Princess," Terik said.

Ro rolled her eyes, "How many times do I need to tell you puny elves that it's RO."

They glittered away.

"Oh, thank you for leaving me with sparkles and no way to get to Funkyhair," she grumbled, "and I was starting to think that Sparkletown was getting better."

"Oh. My. Gosh. He really is alive," Sophie whispered, her eyes wide.

Kenric took a deep breath as his eyes fluttered open.

"No, no, no, please don't hurt me," Kenric said, shielding his face with his arms when he saw many figures standing around him.

"Kenric," Oralie sobbed. She had woken up a few moments before.

"Ora," he whispered, shocked. Once he recovered, he entwined his hand with hers.

"WHAT'S GOIN ON IN THE DOOM ROOM--" Ro called as she stomped into the Healing Center. She froze when she saw Kenric alive and well.

"I'm sorry did I miss something here because last I heard, you were dead. Like a crispy kinda dead."

"RO! Out of the room!" Keefe yelled.

"And you Lover Boy! Why was I not the first one to find out that you were back?"

Their voices disappeared as they walked out.

Oralie and Kenric looked at each other and burst out laughing.

"Well, I guess we got here a bit late," Emery said as he and the other Councillors walked in.

"Let him breathe! Let him breathe!" Elwin demanded as the room was getting stuffy.
