Science. This was it. This was the best opportunity Jake had to talking to Hailey. That's why he wasn't skipping.

Sure, deep down he was utterly terrified, but he knew this had to be done. For the better of his mental health and the better of their damaged friendship, or what Jake beloved had been friendship anyway.

He took his seat next to Drew, who had offered to walk with him to their lesson. They put on the lab coats they'd previously taken out of their bags and placed their safety goggles and text books on the bench in-front of them.

A couple of minutes later, Hailey arrived. She took her seat next to him and the two made eye contact for a split second.

She broke it and reached into her bag for something. She ended up lifting out what looked like a notebook and ripped out a page.

Hailey placed the note on the edge of Jake's desk. He immediately picked it up and began to read the message.

Can we talk?, it read. Jake grabbed a pen out of his back pocket and begun writing on the sheet the word 'sure', before passing it back to his friend.

He watched as a faint smile appeared on her face. The boy couldn't help smiling back at her. She looked so pretty when she smiled.

"Okay class will you turn your books to page 34 and finish of the task from yesterday." The chemistry teacher asked. Everybody flicked through the pages of the books and started completing the work or pretending to do so.

The note flew back onto Jake's desk. However, when he looked across, Hailey was doing her work. He just assumed she had started writing it before hand, which she had.

'When's good for you?" She had asked. Jake begun to write his reply. "today a.." "Hey what you got there!?"

Jake turned his head to see the magenta haired boy wrapping a strand from his jacket around his finger, a cunning grin appearing on his face.

Drew had said it loud enough that a couple of kids had looked back — only from the row in-front of the boys though. Most turned back around within seconds; two still looking to see how the rest of the drama will unravel.

"Just a note.." Jake responded, trying to hide his undying panic that Drew might see threw his lies. "Lemme see it!" He reached his hand out for the note and Jake dragged it to his side.

"No.." "why not Jake?" "Cause.. Cause..." The blond boy stumbled over his words while Drew gave him a slightly fed up look. "Cause what? It was from your girlfriend.

It took Jake a second to get it but when he got it, he got it. "She's not my girlfriend." He defended himself. "Yeah, let me correct myself. Secret girlfriend. Let's face it."

Drew cleared his breath as he dominated his eye-contact with Jake — causing even more worry on the blond boy.

"You and Hailey have some sort of secret or complicated relationship. That note had something  to do with it but since it's a secret you said 'Oh it's just a note' but when I asked to read it, that's when you realised I'd know if you showed me."

Jake sat there puzzled for a minute. For one, Drew was kind of correct. Yes it did kind of have something to do with his and Hailey's current relationship, but unlike what Drew was probably thinking, it was in no way romantic.

"It's n-nothing like that!" he argued. It was only when he saw the look in Drew eyes that he remembered that he'd created a loop in the argument that guaranteed he'd lost.

"Than let me read it." Jake reluctantly handed it to the boy after that. He'd already knew he was defeated, there was no reason to further argue.

"I can meet after this lesson. (If that's okay with u ofc)." Drew read the words of the sheet before handing it back to his friend. "Why you meeting up is it for 'band stuff'."
