"Honey, I'm home!" A man says as he walks into his humble abode.
"Oh Keijeen, you're back early for once." The woman says this lightly giggling, as she mixes the porridge she was baking.
"Dayton let me off the hook today. He said I could take some time off from watching the palace."
The man approaches his wife.
"Oh, that's nice. You can spend some extra time at home now."
"I'm making porridge, you want some once it's prepared?" The woman asks.
"Maldrid... you know I love all the sweets you make... now gimme some sugar love."
The two kissed as they laughed softly together.
Keijeen looks at Maldrid's belly and smiles.
"Look at how big he's gotten." Keijeen says as he rubs her stomach.
"I'm willing to bet he'll be a few pounds when he's out of the womb." Maldrid says.
"How many months is he now?" Keijeen asks.
"Oh, he could just pop out at any minute now if he so pleased." The two laughed once again before Keijeen kissed Maldrid on the cheek and walked over to his couch.
"He's about eight and a half months old now." Maldrid added.
"Oh really?" The man says as he sinks into the sofa.
"Yup, it's almost time, Keijeen."
"You should spend time here more often. The baby's not gonna like his daddy being away all the time."
"Yeah, but Maldrid, you know as well as anybody that I can't do that... with this potential war coming up, I'm gonna have to be away more often. You should be grateful I'm even here right now."
Maldrid pauses before she continues.
"Keijeen... I am grateful! But you were always busy, even before the war threats."
Maldrid stops mixing the porridge and sits with Keijeen.
"Do you really have to fight it? Why not... quit being a soldier? We have enough gold to last us for the rest of our lives... I mean, what if you..."
Keijeen stops Maldrid.
"That's not gonna happen. I'm Daytons strongest soldier. There's no way I'd die before getting to see my son."
"I understand Keijeen, but why not quit? You've done more than enough for Dayton right? What has he done for us?"
"Maldrid... Dayton got us this house, he gave me a reason to wanna live, he gave me a chance to meet you... I'm not gonna abandon him, because of the slim off chance, that I may die in this upcoming war. I'm not gonna let that happen."
"Can you promise me that? Can you promise me that you won't die?"
"Maldrid... you know I could never make promises. You just need to trust–"
Before he could finish, Maldrid grabbed his hand tightly and continued.
"Promise me, you won't die. Please... I need you to promise me Keijeen, just this once."
"Anything can happen in war."
Maldrid shakes her head.
"I won't believe your word until the deal is sealed between us. I can't continue with my uncertainty..."
Keijeen put his hand over Maldrids and continued.
"I promise, on our son's life. I won't die." Keijeen looked determined.
