'Miss Boleyn.'

Diana whipped her head round to see, Professor McGonagall standing behind her, her stern countenance even grimmer than usual. Diana felt worry gnaw at the edge of her stomach. It was eight o'clock in the morning and it was rare for a professor to converse with the pupils at breakfast without serious reason. She wondered if she was going to get a scolding for the events in potions, and could not help but feel the injustice of this keenly. She could not help that Duchess was a highly persistent owl, loyal as a house-elf, that would stop at nothing to get her mistress' letters delivered. Still, Professor McGonagall was notorious for being strict...

'Professor Dumbledore wishes to see you in his office.' Diana gave a little start. Surely the little affair hadn't been that bad.

'No you are not in trouble.' The Professor sighed wearily, as though she had read her mind.

'The headmaster has decided, against my wishes- oh never minds. Just follow me, won't you?' Diana did so meekly, and Professor McGonagall paused by a gargoyle not far from the great hall.

'Lemon drops.' The gargoyle slid away from the entrance and the door opened, revealing a sage old man with a long silvery beard and twinkling blue eyes behind his half-moon spectacles.

'Ah, Minerva. You have bought Miss Boleyn along, I see.' Diana stepped forwards, chewing the bottom of her lip anxiously. Professor Dumbledore smiled down at her, warmly and her nerves were soothed.

'You see, Miss Boleyn, it has come to my attention that your magic is extremely advanced. Almost OWL level, in fact. May I ask where you have learnt this?'

'My sister's textbooks, sir. They were very informative and I borrowed her wand to practise. Though, don't tell her that.' Professor Dumbledore chuckled appreciatively at the last statement, then his smile faded and was replaced with a stern expression.

'You are aware, I  trust, that magic by underaged witches and wizards outside of Hogwarts is strictly prohibited?'

Diana swallowed, realising her mistake immediately. Professor Dumbledore nodded appreciatively.

'I thought as much. Still, your thirst for knowledge is most admirable so I will let it pass for once, though take care not to let it happen again. Now, in light of your knowledge, I have decided to move you up into the second form.' Diana's eyes lit up suddenly, oblivious to a disconsolate Professor McGonagall's tutting.

At least half an hour later she arrived in the charms classroom for her final lesson with the first form. Professor Flitwick nodded at her, whilst Alice cast an inquiring glance at her. Suddenly, Diana's happiness faded as she realised that her promotion would mean seeing less of her newfound friend.

'Oh, Alice.' she said, her enthusiasm fading. 'I'm going into second form.'
