Thomas could be really annoying. Annoying to the point where you felt like punching him in the face. But because she was a good sister (and just didn't want to get in trouble with their uncle Jorge), Brenda never actually punched him. Although she'd definitely love to.
All afternoon, he'd been trying to get Brenda to sign up for some advanced science type class because a boy he thought was cute (Newt was his name?) was in it, and he had been too scared to sign up by himself. He'd thought that he'd make an idiot of himself in front of the boy, and he was probably right.
"You have to join with me!" Thomas pleaded.
Brenda sighed.
"Why me? What about one of your other friends?" Brenda asked, getting annoyed. Walking home with Thomas was never fun, but it was becoming unbearable today.
"I don't have any other friends. You never make friends on the first day of school!"
"I saw you talking to that Asian kid today." She pointed out. Only then realizing how racist that actually sounded.
Stuff like that would happen to her a lot. She'd think something, then say it, but it turned out either stupid or offensive to some degree. She hoped internally that Thomas wouldn't be mad about the comment.
"Yeah, but that was one conversation." Thomas said, it was his first year at their school (Ava Paige High-School) this year. He had no connections yet. Brenda, however having joined the school the previous year, really didn't have that many friends.
"Oh my god Thomas! Fine I'll join." She snapped, slowly calming down.
"Thank you so much Bren." Thomas practically yelled, and wrapped Brenda in a huge hug.
She'd always hated that nickname. Her name was Brenda, not Bren. That was what their mother had named her, that is what she should be called. But Thomas always called her that. It became less annoying with time. Not by much though.
"Your welcome you idiot." She responded, hugging back.
Thomas may have been the most annoying person on the planet, but he was the only one who had (and she had thought would) ever understood her. And she'd never deny that.
The rest of the walk home consisted of talking about things from that day. The first day of school was usually the most interesting. There weren't really any classes and people pretty much just talked the whole day.
"So, you have to tell me about this boy that I'm signing up for some boring class so you can get in his pants." Brenda joked, but actually was a little bit serious.
Thomas laughed before answering.
"Well, his name is Newt, I'm pretty sure it's short for Newton or something, because who the hell would name their kid Newt?" Thomas asked her.
"It really does sound kind of stupid." She told him, laughing.
"He's got like, light brown hair that to me looks orange, but no one else thinks it looks orange, and this smile that's just..." Thomas trailed off, smiling. But Brenda knew what he meant. It was hard to describe love. She never could with Aris. Even when it was real.
"Sounds cute, you better hope I don't take him from you." She joked, shoving him over as they rounded the corner and saw their house.
"You better fucking not." He said, laughing.
Brenda walked up the little staircase to their house, and fiddled with the key until she opened their door.Hi baes, really bad first chapter but I promise it will get better. OMFG that cover I made looks pixels on here. I promise it looked better before I posted it on here. I fucking promise! Btw I picture Brenda different than Rosa looks, so if I describe her, it won't be the same.
