The two girls just arrived at Brenda's house. They had talked about a lot of things on the way, but mostly ballet. Teresa was good. Like really, really good. And Brenda still couldn't understand the basics.
Brenda hoped Teresa wasn't judging their house that much. It was small. One-income-family small. But it looked nice enough. White walls and a nice step and windows and a front and back door. It wasn't special, but it wasn't terrible.
Brenda went up the step to knock on the door, hoping that Thomas was home. But it wasn't Thomas that opened the door, but Jeorge instead. He gave the girls an interesting look before turning to Brenda.
"You made a friend?" He asked. It was an odd question, but it had been forever since Brenda had brought anyone home.
"Yeah, um, this is Teresa. Is Thomas home?" Brenda asked quickly, trying to change the subject.
"Yeah he's home. Thomas!" He called for him.
Thomas rushed to the doorway, looking confused.
"What? What's happening?" He asked.
Brenda walked up the step in front of her house, and leaned towards Thomas. She hoped Teresa wouldn't hear her.
"Come with us." Brenda told him, threateningly almost.
"Why? Where are you going? I don't want to leave" He said.
"We're going to some lgtb-whatever the rest are meeting." She told him.
"What? I know I'm gay. Only people who don't know what's going on go to those." He said mockingly.
"Newt might be there," she tempted.
She saw his face brighten up when she said that. She didn't know why, but she really wanted to spend more time with Teresa, even if her little brother had to be there with her.
"Fine, I'll come." Thomas was suddenly much more happy about going.
"Thank you so much!" Brenda shouted quietly.
The two of them walked down the step, Jeorge had gone into the living room. And Brenda introduced Thomas and Teresa to each other.
They were walking down a street Brenda didn't know. It was lined with houses that had almost identical rose bushes serving as fences, and it was quiet pretty, when Teresa had taken to calling Thomas Tom, and he was bothered by it which made it hilarious to watch.
The two of them had started talking about their "intense gayness" and Brenda's phone went off. The three of them stopped walking when they heard it. It was a text from Aris, asking if Brenda wanted to hang out. She ignored it.
"Aren't you going to answer?" Teresa asked.
"No one important." Brenda answered, trying to act cool.
Thomas looked at her knowingly. But she'd much rather spend time with her brother and Teresa than Aris. Which probably wasn't how you were suppose to feel about you'r boyfriend, but she did either way.
They finally reached the building where the meeting was. Brenda was oddly surprised to see it was in the community centre. They walked down a few hallways Brenda didn't recognize, and reached a door.
"Where are we going?" Brenda asked.
"Basement." Teresa responded.
