The Priestess and the Demon

Chapter 3

"Father! I have terrible news! "I shouted while slamming the door open.  He was sitting at the table writing some letters. I ran straight past him and went downstairs.  "What is it Asteria dear"he said while staring at me with confusion in his eyes. "That...that demon..."I gulped as the memory of him attacking me flashed through my mind.  I couldn't hold back my tears anymore. Father rushed towards me. "Asteria why are you crying?"he said worriedly. "Zephyr..."I cried harder. "Is everything okay?" he asked while wiping my tears away. "Father Zephyr attacked me!" I sobbed out."Zephyr the crowned
prince of hell"my father gasped ."We are in grave danger  Zephyr"I cried. "Why would he attack us"he growled in fury."I don't know,but we have to find him and get you and mother out of here right now". He placed his hand under my chin and tilted my face upwards to stare directly into my tear filled brown eyes.  "Listen to me Asteria I won't leave your side" he said softly while stroking my cheek."Promise me"I cried. "I promise you my darling"he said with a smile."Priest you have recieved a message from the king he wants to see you immediately "an alter server told my father. "Asteria I have to go for now you need to rest and you will continue this discussion later" father spoke . "Ok father",I bowed my head and excused myself.
I took a bath and changed into a new dress and sat on my bed. My wounds were now healing but at a slow rate. I took out my spell book and began to practice some spells. I had to be strong in order to face Zephyr again.
A few hours passed and my father returned from the castle. I immediately rushed towards him. "Father !"I said as I engulfed him into tight hug. "Asteria what happened to you why are you covered with all this bandages" "Huh? don't you remember what happened to me earlier "I said as I stared at him with confusion.
"I don't remember talking to you today Asteria "he said. "Father what are you talking about, we were discussing about the Demon prince that attacked me!"
"The demon Prince ,Asteria you know his just a myth?" "But father! I saw him,he did this to me!" "Enough Asteria clearly being a priestess has taken a toll to your mental health!I think we have to get you married to Zayn as soon as possible" "What no! I don't agree with this" "It's not up for discussion, you will get engaged tomorrow and be wed by the end of the week and it's final!" "But father!" "Don't argue with me Asteria"I closed my mouth tightly and glared at my feet.I walked to my room and my mind was buzzing with questions. Why was he acting weird all of sudden? Why did he want me to get married to Zayn that bad? What was going on?  All the emotions I felt in my chest began to swirl making it hard for me breathe. I laid in bed tossing and turning thinking.
Without even noticing it was already morning and my mother burst into my room beaming with joy. "Sweetie wake up you must get ready for your engagement "she said while opening the curtains. "Urgh mom you know very well I don't wang to get engaged. I am only 16 years old. I still want to do a lot of stuff". My mom smile turned into a frown "Sweetie I know it's hard right now but you understand.  You know I was your age when I got engaged and look at me  now with two gorgeous babies. I have everything I could ever ask for and I know you will feel the same way when you get married "she said while hugging me.  "Now get up and get dressed we need to visit the temple to ask for God to bless your marriage ".
I got up and I took a shower as I enter my room I noticed a blue dress on my bed. As I held the dress it was soft to the touch made from the finest silk and it had golden embroidery which formed intricate  patterns. It was very pretty. I quickly put the dress on and admired myself.  As expected it fit me beautifully. There were two pieces of jewelry attached to it. One piece of silver was an oval pendant with a crystal embedded on it and it had a small pearl inside the centre. I took out the necklace and wore it carefully. A little bit later my maids came to help me get ready. They helped me to comb my hair which is as long as mine was. We also did my makeup to perfection and they styled my hair into a half up half down style. After that we headed to the temple.
The whole temple looked like a royal palace and there were many people wearing fancy clothes standing near the main doors waiting for our arrival. After about 15 minutes we arrived and I was introduced to Zayn. His hair was black except for a white streak in the middle of his forehead and his deep violet eyes sparkled with kindness and sympathy. He offered me his arm and escorted me towards the altar where our parents were already waiting for us.
We performed the rituals and we were about the last blessing from the high priest.He started to chant a prayer and spraying us with holy water to ward off any evil spirits. As the water landed on Zayn it started burning him. He then got up and excused himself and ran out of the room. That was strange I thought to myself . I looked at the high priest and he seemed puzzled as well. He looked at me questioningly and I shook my head. He sighed and finished saying the last blessings.
We returned home and I saw the maids rushing around getting ready for the engagement. I went to my room and sat on my bed I was going to miss this place once I got married.  Just then the maids entered my room with a huge rack of dresses and  accessories in their arms. "What is all this?"I asked confused while taking a dress out from the pile and examining it closely. "Your bride gift"one maid giggled while blushing. "Bride gift" I repeated. "Yes your wedding day presents" the others chimed in. I raised an eyebrow. Wedding gifts? "Well what are you waiting for put these on" the maid who first giggled said while showing a dress that I thought was too expensive to wear. I rolled my eyes and took it from them. I put it on carefully and stepped in front of a mirror. Wow I thought as I examined myself. My outfit consisted of three layers of tulle and lace. It consisted of a low neckline, with long sleeves that reached my elbow, I had matching gloves and heels.My hair flowed down to my waist. I felt like a princess from another realm. "How do I look?"I asked the maids  and they gushed over my appearance. "You look absolutely breathtaking "the second maid said while gazing at my appearance. "You should wear this more often" the third maid added. "Thank you all so much for helping me prepare everything" I thanked them sincerely.
Soon the party was about to start and guest started appearing. Some people were dressed like royalty and some were dressed in ordinary attire including my maids who served drinks. I watched as everyone milled around chatting. Then I spotted someone familiar walking towards me holding a bouquet of flowers in one hand. The person stopped beside me as we were alone
"May I have this dance milady",Zayn asked with a smirk on his face. I reluctantly took his hand and we started dancing .Everyone was watching with admiration.  "They look so perfect together"I heard one of the guest saying .  "I can see their love for each other, they complement each other"I overheard the other person respond.  Soon the song ended and Zayn and I took our seats and it was time to exchange our rings. Zayn place a beautiful diamond ring on my finger and it was my turn as I was saying my engagement vows I noticed a pair of silver eyes in the crowd. Could it be Zephyr?  But it couldn't be...right? I continued to say the words 'I, Asteria, vow to protect you Zayn from the Demons and anyone else that may come for you. I promise I will always protect and cherish you'."  As soon as I was done Zayn and I exchanged our rings and he kissed my hands. I smiled at him with gratitude.
As soon as the ceremony was over, I excused myself to use the washroom and found a letter on my dressing table. I opened the letter, read it and my eyes widened in horror. My heart started beating fast and tears filled my eyes. I stood rooted to the ground staring at the note.
There was no way, how could this be happening. I clutched the letter tight in my fist as my knees started shaking. I needed to get away, I wanted to leave before I broke down. I ran out of the room, almost knocking down two maids as I exited. Once I got outside I leaned against a wall breathing heavily trying to calm down. "Milady are you alright?" one of the maids asked. "I'm fine thank you for asking." I wiped the tears from my face and tried to compose myself.
"I am coming for you my beautiful Asteria" the note said. It was nonr other than Zephyr himself.  I crumpled the paper in my hand, my breath hitched and my body began trembling violently. Zephyr had finally made a move. He was going to make me his mate. No matter how scared I was I knew that it would be my downfall. How could such a wonderful person like Zephyr hurt me like this?

Hey guys sorry I forgot to tell you Zayn is actually a prince and his dad is a king .I decided to change it and Asteria is a noble like a daughter of of duke like a duchess. She is also the next in line to be the head of the family.
