Unlikely Friends

After school I went to the hospital to look for Amelia. A nurse informed me she was in a surgery at the moment with Dr. Reddy but she should be out soon. As I sat there wondering what the night had in store for me a melodic voice pulled me from my thoughts. "Anna, it's nice seeing you here." I look up with wide eyes "oh, hi Carlisle I was actually meaning to meet with you for that checkup. " He smiled at my use of his name. He gently takes my hands and gives them a once over. You're healing nicely Ann. Was that all you're here for?" I blush softly "I'm waiting for my aunt to get out of surgery." Despite my nerves I really want to talk to him longer. "Would you like to sit?" He looks at me surprised before taking the seat to my left. Quick say something ann .... anything at all "So what made you want to be a doctor?" He looked at me dumbfounded "well long story short I wanted to spend my life helping others, I have a lengthy history that led me here but im sure you don't want to hear all of the boring details." I scoff softly looking down at my feet  "I don't think anything you tell me could ever bore me." I look up into his golden eyes and melt as his warm gaze sends tingles through my body "Maybe I'll see you later tonight at your place?" I widened my eyes when I realized how that sounds "Wait, that came out wrong, Alice invited me over for a sleepover ..." he smiled at me softly before standing up "I hope I do. I'll see you soon Ann." As he walked away I can't help but think there was more to him than meets the eye.

Amelia ended up getting stuck in surgery longer than she intended and asked for a raincheck since she had to go into another surgery in less than an hour. I let her know I would be spending the night at Alice cullens house which she surprisingly didn't mind at all. I think she's just glad I'm making friends. I pulled out my phone and sent Alice a quick text letting her know I was heading that way to which she replied immediately.
"Ok, see you in a few"
The drive there was kind of creepy im not going to lie. It's alot of forest and not much light to illuminate the path there. Had I not had my highbeams on I probably would of missed the turn onto their road. Pulling into their driveway I was left flabbergasted at the beauty of their home. It was quite literally the house of my dreams. I can only imagine how beautiful this home must be in the light of day. Before I could even knock Alice was already opening the door welcoming me in. The inside was just as beautiful if not more than the exterior.

"Ann im so glad you came! You can follow me to my room and we can get started" I was a little nervous but I think it's the good kind of nerves rather than the bad type. Alice's room was exactly as I pictured it, full of character. My eyes almost bulged out of my head at the sight of her bedroom sized bathroom. She gracefully walked to her bed and sat patting the spot across from her for me to join. I slipped off my shoes and sat down on her bed criss cross still taking everything in. "So, is there a specific reason you wanted me to come over? Or did you genuinely want to be friends?"
"Why not both?" Alice countered.
"Where is everybody else?" I asked curious. "Rosalie and Emmett are in their room, jasper went out for a walk, esme is in the main room and I believe Edward is with Bella right now." I looked up surprised. "Are they together now?"
"It seems like it doesn't it. So I understand you have some questions you need answers too."
I stare at her shocked, how did she know that? I definitely did not expecting her to answer me so willingly but then again she doesn't know what I plan on asking. "Well ... yes I do have some questions." I look around awkwardly suddenly forgetting everything I wanted to ask. " Listen Ann im going to be very honest with you, ok? There's certain things you need to know if you're to join our family." What did she just say? "Wait what? What do you mean join your family?" She looked at me unsure. "That's for a later conversation Ann. Let's jump into the hard stuff first." She paused for what I assume is dramatic effect. "I know you've had your suspicions since the accident and I want you to be apart of our lives but in order for that to happen you need to know the truth." I take a deep breathe out only now realizing I was holding it. The silence has never been so loud than in this moment.
"Were vampires Ann." I started into space wondering what kind of joke she was currently trying to play on me. A laugh bubbled it's way out of my mouth. "Vampires? Is this some kind of prank?" She looked at me with a serious expression telling me she was telling the truth. My smile dropped and my eyes widened, Vampires exist. No biggie I guess. I wonder if other mythical creatures exist too like wolves or fairies. I realized she was still waiting for a response. "This is insane and a little hard to believe but I trust you aren't lying to me but wait doesn't sunlight burn your skin or something? You have alot of windows here ...." I trail off confused and when I look back at her she looks like she's holding back laughter. "No Ann, sunlight doesn't burn our skin. I'll show you that later though or maybe carlisle will." realization dawns on me, Carlisle is a vampire... no wonder he's so perfect as If he was sculpted by Michelangelo himself.

"Ok now down to the good stuff. What do you think of Carlisle?" I look at her with wide eyes almost choking on my saliva. Was she in my head?  "um wh -- what, I'm not sure what you mean exactly."
"Well you like him don't you?" How In the world could she possibly know that. Unless she saw me blush earlier when she mentioned his name but I didn't think she was looking. "He's married Alice... to Esme. It's not right to think of a married man that way." I looked away embarassed because I had indeed been thinking of a married man that way. She gives me a knowing look. "They aren't married Ann. Well not really. They pretend they for appearances but are really just best friends. In order for us to stay in a place for a longer period of time we have to appear as young as we can without raising suspicion. And in order to do that Carlisle and Esme pose as our parents." I nod my head listening. "But what does that have to do with my feelings towards Carlisle?" She flashes me a cocky grin " Some vampires have gifts Ann. For example, I can see the future. Edward can read minds except Bellas it seems and Jasper can pursuade emotions." I stare at her with my mouth slightly open "that's pretty freaking cool I'm not gonna lie Alice." Her laugh sounds like music. "My point is I've seen it. I've seen you with Carlisle. You're his true mate." I stare at her in disbelief.  "Does .... he know?" I'm absolutely buzzing with nervous energy. "He does. But he doesn't know I'm telling you all of this now. He thought this would scare you away but I knew better than that."
A soft knock at the door interuppted our conversation. Alice got up faster than my eyes could keep up and opened the door revealing a smiling esme. "May I speak to you for a moment Ann?" I was suddenly extremely nervous "um sure." Esme held her hand out wanting me to follow her. Alice shot me a reassuring look before closing the door behind me. "Listen I don't want you to feel uncomfortable Ann, All I want is for Carlisle to be happy. He's my best friend and I want the world for him. He's going to be home any minute now and I'd love for you both to have a chance to speak if that's OK with you?" The nerves intensified and my heart felt like it was in my stomach and all I could so was give her a small nod. She walked me into the common room and sat next to me on the couch. "You don't have to be nervous, He's a good man." Just then we saw headlights coming up the driveway. "Right, I'm gonna go keep myself busy then." She shot me a wink before leaving me alone to wait. I felt like I could puke at any moment, I was so nervous. What if I'm not what he wants. What if I'm not good enough for him. The sound of the door opening pulled me out of my thoughts and when I turned towards the door a sense of calm washed over me.

"Ann? Why are you sitting here alone? Where's Alice?" What exactly do I say to him? The rushing in my ears gradually got louder and louder " She had something to do really quick .... Would you, um, like to sit with me?" He nodded and walked over to me taking the seat next to me. "How was work?" He smirked at me causing heat to immediately rise to my cheeks. "Work is work. How was your day today?" I stared into his hypnotic eyes like I was under a spell before lowering my gaze to his lips. When I looked back up into his eyes there was a undeniable look of longing. "I learned alot today. Alice ... is very informative." I flickered my eyes to his face as I saw realization dawn on him and for a fleeting moment, anger. "Ann ... If you don't want this I understand. I would never force you into anything you don't want." The pain in his voice was like a knife through my chest, looking into his eyes I knew what I wanted. How could he possibly think I wouldn't want him? Without a second thought I brought myself closer kissing him tenderly. His lips were soft, almost silken, and pillowy against my own. Fingers carding through his hair as we breathed each other in.”
When we finally pulled apart I was breathing heavily lust still clear in my eyes. " I want you Carlisle. All of you. The good and the bad."

The rest of the night I listened in awe as he described these amazing stories of his life. Some he was proud of and others he felt ashamed but no matter what he was still perfect in my eyes. Somewhere along the way I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. The last I remember was Carlisle placing a delicate kiss on my head before I fell into a blissful sleep.
